Big volume related problem, please help
Hello,
I've been using the kx drivers with my Audigy 1 Player and my Creative Sound System (I don't know how it's called anymore, it's an older 5.1 one, I think it's called Theatre 5500 or something? Could be...it's analog...I think..I'm no pro at those audio system things..) for a while, not having any problems at all.. recently though, there was a point where suddenly the whole volume level dropped, ie. on the hardware volume control I have to push the the control much higher to achieve the same volume level that I had before achieved with less pushing it up (it was very sensitive before), I hope you get what I mean. I don't know why this happened so suddenly, I did not change any settings. I checked the windows mixer AND the kx mixer and every possible output-related thing is on max. Maybe this is even a hardware-related problem, but maybe it's Software, do you have any idea what could cause this? The KX peak meter shows me around -0.08 db on L and R when I play some music, unfortunately I haven't looked at it back when all was working and louder, so could you tell me if that's a normal level? I would normally assume it's supposed to be at 0.00... BIG thanks munin |

not all music reaches 0.0 all the time, im in the same situation when i listen to music
i was also under the impression that the CL drivers digitall amplified sound, just a little bit, to increase the output volume (which reduces the quality slightly) you mat also want to remember that with time, audio cables wear out, and that could be why your speakers seem softer

yes that they wear out may be the case but I HIGHLY doubt that they wear out from one second to the next...as said this volume drop happened SUDDENLY...like in the morning I was listenign to music and then 2-3 hours later i started listenign to music again it was not as loud anymore, i had to push the volume control up..so i'm sure it must be some kind of problem..

as said in my first post, everything on the master tab is on 100, so no problems there..

try checking the windows volume control (be sure to push Master Mixer and Wave all the way up) imo, the kx mixer's interface was a bit confuzing for me when i started using the KX drivers You may want to try going a DSP only setup (use gain HQ plugins to set levels, not volume controls) thats what I do
Another idea, it could be the outboard amplifier (the speakers), not necessarily the computer. You may test it (not so scientifically) by using headphones plugged into the output you use for your stereo and then try and match a cd player to that volume (i would not wear the headphones while doing this) anyways, once you get the cd player set to a similar output level as the soundcard, try plugging that into your speakers and see if you have the problem, if you still have the same problem its the speakers. I hope that makes sense
