I have a chance to get one of these Live! cards relatively cheap. Is this still an issue? Was there any progress on it?

You're right, it actually works for me even without SB022x hack, even "About" suggests otherwise.

The SB22x Hack option is a little strange:

so, if it is 'enabled' by default, checking this option will turn the hack -off-
