mic in teamspeak\ventrilo and Steam

a while ago i used to be able to use my mic in both cs1.6 (steam) and teamspeak or ventrilo....after i formatted and reinstalled i can't any longer..my settings are identical...i don't think they are quite what is reccomended for programs...but those settings run thru my speakers...i don't like hearing my mic background noise all the time

any idea's as to why?

i didn't find anything pertaining to my problem...sound quality is fine...it works fine....but only one application at a time..if i load a hl mod b4 i load teamspeak or ventrilo then the hl mod works..but not the voice app...
if i load the voice app first..then the hl mod's mic doesn't work..

could you give me a link possibly?
thanks in advance..i appreciate your work and your help...oh..and a question of interest...someone told me that the kx drivers run totoally in software..with no hardware acceleration...is this true?...i don't particualrly care...as i have a lot more cpu power than i can use at the moment

God I hate this. Every forum has a jerk like this guy that wastes people's time telling them to search the forum...or worse "search google". I found this post while searching for keyword "steam".
If you don't know the answer, don't try and sound like you are better than other people. I haven't found another post with an answer.
