Ext. Mixer question.
I am hooking an external mixer to my Kx powered card, now do I use the tape out(I have been) or is it better to use SUBMIX OUT, I know quite a few of you guys have external mixers..thx, I get sound with KX, I just want to make sure I have proper wiring, THX

Your mixer sends the same kind of signal through each of its outputs; from a "wiring" perspective, it doesn't matter which one you use. Whatever is most convenient for you.
In my setup, I use the insert jack on each microphone channel to go into the computer, and then return from the computer's rear out plug; this way, I can do ASIO processing of the signals within the computer, and have all the routing options of the mixer. I really like this setup, but lots of people really frown on monitoring through a computer; who's to say who's right? Do what you like best; what is most useful to you; what "feels" right to you. |

don't know about frying anything, it should max out at line level
but for the peak meter, directly after the src/prolog module

Hi!
There are some good reasons to use the record out: 1. All levels are matched to ~750mV e.g. 0db at max. Master is much louder when fully open 2. The (mixed) signal reaches the record out "Master pre-fade", so the level doesnīt change, when you fiddle around with the master fader 3. Master out has one amp more than the record out, so some more noise generation My suggesetion therefore: use record out! Hint: if channels have a peak-LED, set the channel gain so that the peak-LED is NEVER lit at loud inputs, so you canīt easily overdrive your cardīs input too. For safety: add a peakmeter at the input of the card and look always at it while recording. |
