I recently procured an old Live Drive II for cheap.
I conected it to my Audigy1 (SB0090) and it seems to work fine. ![]() The only problem is a small window/icon pops up at the bottom right hand corner of the screen, like this: http://tinypic.com/2melpy (For those who don't want to look, it contains a speaker, pair of headphones and a question mark.) I sorta get the impression it is asking me to choose between speaker and headphone output, but no matter what I do, I cannot interact with it. I've tried clicking on it, moving it and closing it, but nothing happens. Does anyone know what this icon is, and how to dismiss it? Many thanks in advance. Damian |

Same card here, same problem with my selfmade drive. This icon appears due to a interference of the AC97 clock with SPDIF#2 input. If you have no sound problem on SPDIF#2, then simply uncheck OSD notifications for speaker status (right click kX -> settings -> OSD...). If you have any sound problem, then the drive may be damaged. If your connection cable is pretty long, try to make it as short as possible.

The LiveDrive came with no cables which is why I got it very cheap ;-)
I am using a verrry looong IDE cable to connect it to my card. The cable is a metre long with four IDE connecters on it. To be honest I was too scared to use it with a hard drive or even a CD drive, for fear of data corruption. So having this cable laying unused for years, I was delighted I had finally found a use for it. It was too good to be true! ![]() Thanks for the info travelrec, I'll try a shorter cable and let you know of the results. How does Creative avoid interference then? Do they use special shielded cables or what? And have you considered how to shield your connecting cable? |

![]() A shorter cable made all the difference. I tried out an 80 pin ATA133 cable, but got nothing except static from the LiveDrive. I guess these must be wired differently from the old 40-conector IDE cable. |

Good to know
! For the ATA133 cable I donīt think itīs different connected generally (you can use both cables on a HD without any difference, each second wire is inside the socket connected with GND), but anyway - it works for you ...

OT:
I thought 80-conductor cables were different because to connect drives to these cables you need to change jumpers to 'cable select'. Also, the cables are position-specific - one end MUST be conected to mobo, and then mobo can determine which drive is master and slave by certain wires in the cable. Postscript. Found this: "This (80-conductor) cable is very similar in most respects to the regular IDE/ATA cable, except for the CSEL signal. CSEL is carried on wire #28 of the standard IDE/ATA cable, and is grounded at the host's connector (the one that attaches to the motherboard or controller). On a cable select cable, one of the connectors (the "master connector") has pin #28 connected through to the cable, but the other (the "slave connector") has an open circuit on that pin (no connection)." That is why the live drive wouldn'twork with tht 80-conductor - pin #28 was not passed through. Last edited by meroveus; Apr 12, 2005 at 08:07 AM. |

Hi there... Seeing this reply got me thinking... TravelRec, remember when we were mapping these pins for AD_EXT stuff? When i was testing pin 36 at AD_EXT by passing SPDIF input to it, i had this icon on screen, from time to time... I taught that pin 36 must be 'audio cable detect' pin of some sort... But, now that i saw your post, could this pin 36 be that missing SPDIF2 IN on AD_EXT?!? Is there anyibody to test this, because my Audigy2 is sealed in my case as a prisoner in Guantanamo right now?

Hmm, I have Audigy 2, but value version without AD_EXT, so sorry. The only thing I can do now is to sort out the 10k2 pins on that card model, but I really do not want to test something before the driver is updated to support this card fully
- too much pins without known function. If you want to check for the missed port - simply feed TTL-SPDIF over 300-400 Ohm resistor into this pin and check with ProFX for incoming signals. kX always says, there are 3x SPDIF inputs so we will find them anyhow and anytime. BTW: where is your card?!? Greetings! |

My card was placed so bad inside my Soltek barebone case that i neded an hour to get everything connected today...
No luck, missing SPDIF is not at pin 36...
