VIA C-3 processor soundfonts distortion
Hi friends,
I purchased Mercury G-320 Notebook having VIA C-3 Nehemiah 1.0Ghz processor and now everything is working well but when i play SF2 soundfonts with Audigy 2NX and software synthesizers like fruity loops,v-sampler,alive etc,the sound is getting totally distored with full of crackles and popping noise just like monkeys around me and i tried many drivers including latest VIA 4IN and also Windows XP service pack-2 but of no use and when i play MIDI instruments using built in Microsoft GS wavetable SW synthsizer then the sound is ok not getting any crackles but the problem is with the soundfonts. Now i'm unable to understand why there is problem only with the soundfonts and not having any poblem with built in Microsoft GS wavetable MIDI sounds and i'm not facing any distortion with MP3 and video files. Is cyrix c-3 processor not suitable for playing soundfonts?and is there any solution to my problem? Processor details; Processor :VIA C-3 C5X2,1Ghz Code no :Nehemiah(0.3um) Model :Family6 model9 level5 Memory :Type 32 bit L1 cache :128 kb L2 cache :64 kb L3 Cache :Not avialable Sound card :AC97 2.1 complaint Waiting for the replies, Thanks, sunny |

Hi
This come into mind now ... - Latest Creative drivers needed with XP SP2 - USB 2.0 would be the best choice to use with NX - If kx do not support NX then you can try Asio4All driver (http://www.asio4all.com). Not sure if Asio4All works with Cyrix processors (ought to, I believe). jiitee |

Hi jiitee,
Thanks for your reply and i wan't to inform you that i'm getting cracklles and popping noises not only with the creative sound cards but also with any software synthesizers like v-sampler,fruity loops, reality, synth font etc.I'm getting crackles noises only with the soundfonts and if i play only one preset then the sound is somewhat ok but if i use more than one soundfont preset then the sound is getting totally distored and now i'm unable to understand what is the mainpart responsible in my notebook for this crackles and popping noises whether the c-3 processor or chipset or BIOS?My notebook details is as follows Processor :VIA C-3 C5X2,1Ghz Code no :Nehemiah(0.3um) Model :Family6 model9 level5 Memory :Type 32 bit L1 cache :128 kb L2 cache :64 kb L3 Cache :Not avialable Sound card :AC97 2.1 complaint CHIPSET : VIA CLE 266(VT 623) SOUTH BRIDGE:VIA VT235 BIOS :American megatrends Inc, version 07.0T I shall be very grateful if someone please solve my problem.Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance, sunny |

If I got it right, you have a latency issue there. All those software you named, are using your sound card to produce sound = they are not 'software sound cards'. You need a better sound driver (or try set the latency on your current driver) and this is why I pointed Asio4All driver, since it is said to be the best available for laptop computers with/and/or onboard/external sound cards without (good) WDM drivers. jiitee |
