Help - Installation problems
I recently bought an Sb live entertainment 5.1 audio card to try KX for speaker crossover project. I installed creative drivers that came with card initially to check that everything was ok - this worked fine ( I am running windows 98Se 2nd Ed. on celeron processor). I have a rage 128 video card.
I am not a newbie to hardware/software installations but am having a problem with the 3537 installation - after installation when rebooted, kx reports that it cannot initialise the sound card - any suggestions? I have tried a number of different ways of installing this - first uninstalling Creative drivers- using auto KX install - using manual KX install - installing version 3533 (last stable version?) = all give the same error "cannot initialise the soundcard". As the creative drivers work it doesn't seem to be realted to a hardware problem - am I doing something wrong? John |

Should have done a good search brfore posting
After a good search, I found the following thread http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthre...ation+problems
specifying that (A) Either a new Windows install(update) will solve this problem or (B) i had tremendous problems with kx on win98. prior i also had problems on winME. But now i have kx3537 running on win98, and i did not reinstall windows, allthough it took me a cpl of hours, till i found the posts in forum saying that. SHOULD INSTALL KX3534F FIRST, THAN KX3537!!!!!! so 1. i installed the 3534f drivers, reboot 2. than the 3537 drivers (without uninstalling 3534) reboot 3. maybe some strange errors, balbalbal ignored them 4. uninstalled 3534f 5. couple if rebbots, kx3537 workin now (ASIO, midi, CD Audio, perfect sound quality) I suppose this way will also work for the winME system, but remember: it is n ot always the best way to reinstall the windows. If it starts malfunctioning, so the situation is bad- if you start playing arround with safe mode, devices, different drivers, directx, etc, u dont risk so much since the system is somehow corrupted anyway - and it can happen that you find a way to make it work!!! than u know for the future, how 2 deal problems:P but backups (ghost for ex) are recommended ofcourse, it is also a practical thing for testers |

Thanks dj - I found that driver, downloaded it and followed the instructions above about laoding 3534 first then 3537 - still exactly the same problem - "unable to initialise soundcard" when system boots up.
I will try reloading windows SE(I have tried this before) but am honestly nearly ready to throw in the towel on this |

Try this: remove all current drivers, check in device manager and remove it there if necessary, then unpack kx3537 into a specified folder (run installer, but donīt install the driver, only unpack it from the setup), reboot, let windows detect the audio card, then go to "install new driver", point the windows installer to the folder with the kx files and install them manually, when asked for joystick driver, point the windows installer also to the kX folder. You may need the 98SE disc for some necessary files. After all that reboot the machine. Then run kX-setup again, then run kX-installation, follow the screen, reboot. Next startup will generate an error message, ignore it, reboot. Next startup another message may appear, also ignore it, reboot. This should finally work, reply here whether you succeed or not.

Thanks TravelRec, I will follow your instructions and report back.
I didn't reinstall windows as I intended 'cause I just don't have the time to sit in front of a computer reinstalling s/w. |

Good luck for trying - if you have anytime the chance to update your OS, make it real! Newer OSses have better multimedia support and installation of kX is very easy.

TravelRec - did what you suggested - no joy
![]() This is an attempted Windows 98 SE installation of KX drivers - I removed drivers using device manager - rebooted and windows found new hardawre - pointed it to drivers in program files/KX files/3537 - this went ok - Rebooted - WIndows halted on reboot at windows wallpare screen with no icons displayed - waited 15 mins but no disk movement - used ctrl/alt/del to bring up task manager - Msqsrv32 was not responding - killed it - windows came up - message from KXSetup "Error initialising your audio card - please reinstall drivers - blah, blah" - Checked device manager - driver KX 10K1 audio 5.1 Sb0102 properties "NTKERN.VXD MMDEVLDR.VXD device loaders could not load the device driver" - Under Sound,Video and Game ports - KX 10K1 is not working - checked device driver it was "Eugene Gavrilov 2-16-2004" - other entries here KX 10K1 audio - game port - is registered to creative drivers? DOes all of this make sense? I suspect the problem lies on the first reboot when windows halts with Msqsrv32 not responding - any suggestions? |

Try the text files up here if nothing else works. The method of getting kX to work with Win 98SE described up here has worked for some and not for others, hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones.
http://www.usfamily.net/web/4stories/Images/KX-NTRACK-2SCS/ I have switched to XP Pro since writing these text files and I have found it to be much simpler for recording but you know, Bill isn't giving XP away free. Actually he won't even give Windows 3.1 away for free, but then again the recording community probably wouldn't line up overnight to get Win 3.1. Last edited by Doug W; May 4, 2005 at 06:03 AM. |
