Electric Guitar and KX drivers
Hey, I was wondering how many people use KX drivers with electric guitar, I just got one so I am experimenting with patches...Using simple ones. I was curious as to how many users do this very thing..I think I am gonna install 3538 to get the tube distortion made by tiger. I got a digitech RP100 as well so I run the Axe through that first and it brings the guitar to line level then I pipe it through and experiment with patches...

I use a similair setup. I connect my electric to my Digitech RP200 and then connect the headphones out on the RP200, to the Line in on my SB Live.

Is it better to use the headphone instead of the line out on the pedal? I didn't want to clip the signal. Hey what typ of setup dp you use in KX?..I have been messing with basic setups for now...I have to get an AC adapter for the RP..or it last for like an hour......can you discribe what type of patches your using?...I have ben messing with tigers tube drive..etc. I have ben taking notes on DSP though, I am gonna TRY and design a distortion plugin similar to the Boss metal zone..with the parametric EQ on the mids..I can't seem to get a usable distortion out of the RP...I just got the guitar and the RP so I am just learning how to configure it....any pointers? -as I want distortion not that crunchy blues typ of drive..etc..thx for your help

I only recently starting playing around with kX (as far as my guitar goes), and I am at the experimentation point as well, trying to figure out what works best as far as kX pluings goes. For connecting to the sound card, you are probably better off using the 1/4 jack. I used the 1/8 inch jack (headphones out), simply because I could not find my adapter at the time, but it seems to work good. I have not had any probelms and reading the Digitech forum, I see some people using the headphone jack for recording, and others using the 1/4 jack, both reporting good results. I am not sure what all the differences are bewteen the RP100 and RP200. but I find that a lot of the built-in presets are no good, and that you are better off making your own. Check the Digitech patch library as there are some decent patches avaialble from there. I really like the distortion I am able to get from the RP200, but this type of thing is very subjective, and a lot depends on your guitar setup (i.e. what type of pickups you have, which pickup you are using, how the tone controls are adjusted, etc), what type of music you are playing, and personal taste, etc. Personnally, I lean toward a metal type of distortion (bass and treble up, mids way down). As far as kX goes (with my guitar), I have been pretty much only using it for routing (for ASIO, etc). I play around with some of the other plugins, but I haven't found any great setups as of yet.

Yeah, I guess your right about the personal setup with which jack to use, I guess it doesn't matter unless it's clippiing on you. I was just out looking at stompboxes, I can't get a good distortion out of the RP unit...I Just started playing again but when I played before I liked the high saturated distortion ala metal zone or similar...well I can get usable overdrive from the RP..just doesn't have enough drive for me. I was looking at pedals today and I am gonna demo some tommorow..but I am still gonna use the RP 100 so I can feed the line_in on my PC... and for reverb..delay,etc..but I need something else for distortion. I was looking at the BOSS MT-2 "Metal Zone" and the Digitech DF-7 "distortion factory..I am gonna try them out tommorow then grab one. SO I think I will be using KX mixer for effect patching..EQ,Delay..reverb..etc...Save the Presets as shortcuts then I can just point and click to change..should work out alright... I haven't been able to get good dist. yet, BUT I have only had this unit for under a week..and I am just getting used to it...I am gonna play with it later and see what I come up with..BTW whats worse is I don't have a Adapter so I get about 1/2 hour play time before the batteries go..barley enough time to get a good preset going..oh well I ordered a new AC Adapter today... What type of settings do you use for distorion the RECT..or high gain?

My amp has a headphone/emulated line out jack as well, that I could use if I did not want to use the RP200 (which is good because the bypass on the RP200 does not seem to sound that good). As for distortion on the RP200, I use mostly Stack, and sometimes Rectified. As for EFX Tubedrive, I have used it a little (actually I use it a lot with midi, to give a much needed extra something to distortion/overdriven guitar soundfonts), but I need to play around with it some more to see what it can really do with my guitar. Again, I only recently started using kX with my guitar as well, so I have not had time to try everything out as of yet, and I have 2 electric guitars each with a different sound, so I have a lot of stuff to play around with. It will be interesting to see if any other guitar players respond here to see how they are using kX, etc.

ROBSCIX aksed me of a heavy distortion sound via PM:
Here's what I got solely in the dsp. It has a lot of drive, even more than enough. The strings feel like butter, very light. It's done with this thing: EDIT:Link removed by me. which can emulate any distortion/waveshaping sound you can imagine, both tube, hard clipping and hybrids. Of course I've done quite a bit of filtering in the dsp (4 single band filters). My guitar (US Strat) is not made for heavy metal, so if you have a humbucker at the bridge, you'll probably achieve better results with this kind of heavy drive. Here's the sound: www.geocities.com/ef_x_team/drive.mp3 Last edited by Tiger M; Jun 4, 2005 at 08:23 PM. |

Great fat sound! Truly amazing! I am impressed! I have never been able to get my Boss GX-700 to do anything like this.
Kind regards Sture |

Did I misunderstand, are you planning on releasing this plugin?
