Wave HQ Upsampling

Hi all,

I am using an Audigy 2 - Winamp - DirectSound SSRC - KX Wave HQ set-up to play back my FLAC files.

In any case, my question is this - does the KX Wave HQ device automatically upsample all music files to 96kHz / 24Bit regardless of whether the 'upsampling' option is ticked within the DirectSound SSRC output plugin itself?

The reason I ask is that I have been using this very set-up (i.e. DirectSound without upsampling) , and the 'Udial' test file does not produce any of the inter-modular distortion which usually occurs unless upsampling to 48 / 96 / 192kHz has been activated.

Cheers in advance for any info.

on my tests the differences between WaveHQ device resampling and Software resampling were the following:

WaveHQ IMD around -92 maximum @19KHz
Software resampling IMD around -120dB maximum @19KHz (that is the noise floor of the multirate filter).
Wave0/1 IMD around -20db @19KHz (this creates this big resampling issue)

so from my findings the conclusion is that WaveHQ resampling is acceptable (that is even with the P16V effect in the DSP, so this means that you can safely apply DSP effects on P16V's output)

the software SRC is better if you have really good soundsystem, and CPU with enough power to make the SRC

1. What SRC plugin (SSRC_226, HSQResampler, ASIO etc) you use in Winamp?

2. Trying playback same files in foobar2k player with kernel streaming output plugin doesn't have any success at all. Foobar cannot play any native <=44.1 file through WaveHQ device. Only built-in resampling plugin fix this issue. Hmm.

I think, in this case Directsound interface automatically make SRC for compability or so (not KX Driver).

1)
I use the following combination:

HQSP_Resampler (out=48KHz@24bit/5.1channels in 2.1 mode, the new unreleased version) and the redirected output via ASIO plugin (this one without resampling), unfortunetly for now with ASIO4ALL and Creative beta drivers, because I get a lot of crashes with KX and ASIO plugin in multichannel setup...

2)
DirectSound might be responsible of the resampling via HQ device, but I don't know for sure

In my opinion DS resample 44.1 stream to 16/48 or 24/48... Please confirm, am I right?
