Problems getting my mic to work
For some reason when I speak into my microphone the computer doesn't show as hearing it. It's a little strange though because when I speak into the mic I can hear myself through the speakers.. so I know the mic is working fine. I've tried playing with the settings but so far nothing has worked. What I'm trying to do is get it to work with teamspeak. But I've tried recording myself with other programs but nothing gets recorded. I have a soundblaster Live and my mic is just a desktop microphone with one plug.

Disconnect the top 2 outputs of Prolog, and connect them directly to RecL/RecR of Epilog.
On the "Ins 'n' Outs" page of kxmixer, unmute AC97 and set volume at max. On AC97 page of kxmixer, mute the mic slider, select the mic in the AC97 dropdown box, set mic boost option to your preference, and adjust recording gain to desired level. I did everything else you asked though still have the same problem. However if I click on the peak meter it shows the decibles going up and down when I talk into the mic, not sure how significant this is though. |

Open up the kX DSP Window and find the Prolog plugin. Put your mouse over the area where the virtual wires are connected to Prolog (the top 2 wires), right click and choose disconnect (for the top 2 outputs). Then click on those outputs and drag to the RecL/RecR inputs of epilog making a new connection (top output of Prolog to RecL, second output to RecR).
Normally, with programs like TeamSpeak, you do not want to hear yourself talking, so you will see movement on the peak meter but should not hear it, except as played back by TeamSpeak in test mode. BTW: You should not see movement on the default peak meter when speaking in the mic, as that is for playback, not recording. If you want to see the recording level, add another peak meter to the DSP Window, and connect the top 2 outputs of Prolog to it (in addition to the connections for RecL/RecR of Epilog (i.e. the top 2 outputs of Prolog would be connected to both the peak meter and RecL/RecR of Epilog)) Last edited by Russ; Jul 4, 2005 at 07:53 PM. |

What version of kX are you using?
Did you try connecting a peak meter to Prolog AC97 Outputs (top 2)? If you are not getting a signal there (that should respond when you speak into the mic), than you did not adjust something right in kxmixer. If you are getting a signal there, and are sure that it is connected to RecL/RecR of Epilog, then it is either a volume thing (increase the recording gain and/or use mic boost option), or a setting in your VOIP software. |

BTW: You are getting normal sounds, right (you just are not able to get VOIP working?)?

BTW: Also try recording using the Windows Sound Recorder (and note that you should not hear yourself in the speakers while recording, you should only be able to see the signal in Sound Recorders display after clicking the button to start recording). If it works with Windows Sound Recorder than it is a problem with the setup of your VOIP software.

If you are still unable to get it to work, and suspect it is something in kX, then you might try the following:
Reinitialize the DSP, so that it is back to the default settings, and re-setup kxmixer to match your speakers, etc (or load your default config). Then follow the instructions in the following guide: kX Getting Started Guide - Microphone Setup The guide does things a bit differently, and may suffer from the problem where you hear yourself speaking while using VOIP software, but maybe that setup will work better for you (and should at least familarize you somewhat with the kxmixer controls that are involved). |

Okay, I've got the mic working, but now, the only sound that comes out of my front speakers are sounds from the mic. Music and everything else only comes from the back speakers.
Edit: I have the latest version of KX. |
