Hi.
I bought "Anno 1503 Kings Edition" (German Version) some days ago. Totay i installed it and tried to start it. But i got an error in the "max_sound.dll". DxDiag sais that DirectMusic isnt wirking properly. Look at http://kaigillmann.gmxhome.de/DxDiag.txt When I rename max_sound.dll so that the game cant find it, the game runs very well, but without sound and music. Can anyone help me please? The first thing I would try, would be to reinstall DirectX.

according to that .txt file, directmusic says there are no ports - which makes me think that is the midi section dx. Not sure how that should affect your game as most games from about 1997 (or earlier) upto now use wave equivalent audio, which uses directsound
one solution is to check if there is a patch available for the game, may include a sound engine fix

AW: DisctMusic - Anno 1503 - max_sound.dll
got the same problem with windows server 2003 SP2. with SP1(+) installed, directmusic is completely removed from the system. i've used "DirectX Happy Uninstall" to solve this problem. all you have to do is:
1. boot into safe mode 2. use the rollback option in DirectX Happy Uninstall. this puts windows server back to DirectX 8.1 3. download the redist version of DirectX 9.0c, and extract the install files to a folder (do not install) 4. use the "Install" option in DirectX Happy Uninstall to install DirectX 9.0c SP1" 5. reboot thats it. |
