HELP: muting myself and poor quality TS
first of all, thank you KX, thoise creative drivers were so poor i cudnt even get 5.1 sound working. However i have got a few problems
1. When itlak in my mic i can hear myself through the speakers, where do i go in the mixer to stop that? 2. On teamspeak when people talk, their voice is really low quality, its all crackled and wierd. Anyone know what the problem could be? thanks EDIT: It also seems theres a lot of sound coming fro mthe center speaker. e.g. before in game i had sound in front of me coming thru all 3 front speakers. Is this possible to setup on Kx? Last edited by markspec87; Aug 21, 2005 at 12:53 AM. |

For TS you might try the following setup.
In kxmixer: On the "Ins and Outs" page, mute the "AC97" slider unless you want to hear what you are saying in TS. On the "Recording" page, the "Master Recording Level" slider should be at 100%, and the "AC97 Rec Level" should be unmuted and set to 0 dB. All other sliders on this page should be muted. On the "AC97" page: The "AC97 source" (the dropdown box) should be MIC. The "+20 dB MIC boost" option should be set to your preference. The "Recording Gain" slider can be used to increase the MIC level if it is still to low (otherwise leave it at 0). The "MIC In" slider is used for MIC monitoring (direct to the analog front speakers) and should be muted unless you want to monitor the MIC signal (i.e. hear what you are saying in TS). As for the crackling, I am not sure, does it sound crackled to other people too? Maybe the server is not using a good codec. Maybe a bad internet connection? I am not sure. Usually when someone sounds bad in TS, it is either because of the codec being used, or a problem at that persons end of things (or a problem with the server itself... not enough bandwith for the amount of people using it, etc). As for the sound in the center channel, I am not sure. I have seen it mentioned that the positional sound doesn't work good with same games and kX, so maybe it is that. There is a volume slider in kX Mixer for the Center channel, you might try adjusting it down to compensate. Last edited by Russ; Jun 16, 2006 at 01:50 PM. |

ive done as you said. I can no longer hear myself so thats good however it doesnt seem to fix the dodgy TS noise. It worked perfectly before with the creative drivers. its like theres too much noise coming out. Ive no other way of describing it. Its more crackly than clear, like theres too much treble or something. any other ideas?

You can try connecting FXBus(0/1) directly to epilog (to whichever connection you are using to listen in TS). This will rule out issues with other plugins like Reverb, Chorus, Timbre (Bass/Treble), Surrounder, etc.

Hmm, when using local test mode in TS, your voice would be played back the same way that TS uses for you to hear other people (i.e. it would go through all the same kX plugins/routing, etc), so that again make me think it is something else (not related to kX). I would double check all your TS settings (buffer sizes, download bandwidth, etc). Try connecting to other TS servers and see if there is any difference.

Well the thing with local test is that you can set which codec to use. You need to set it like the channel you are in to atually hear what they hear. Now if you try speex(what ever bit rate, I tried the best) you will get a lot better quality in the voice, at cost of bandwidth. Keep in mind that this setting has to be set in the channel to actually come to use, you can not set it personally.
One thing to another. ![]() Equilizer to ac97, hwo do I get that? I know it bypasses the dsp and I can't bring it from the what ver it's called but I really need to put an EQ to my mic for ts, people hear me way to basey. So if someone has some sneeky way to cope with this please do share ![]() gl hf Charaxes <edit> Or if there is no way to do this, anyone got a cool software to route ac97 through and then to ts, so that I can use and EQ? </edit> |

How is your DSP setup? Using the above setup, you can place an EQ plugin between prolog and epilog if you want.
