Crackling on playback of all recorded sound

I've just discovered something strange. I'm using SONAR and SB Live - 1GB RAM, and I've played with latency and buffers.

Everything I record - be it mic or direct - is laced with crackles.

It's nothing to do with SONAR....In desperation I tried a test - opened Sound Forge and Winamp and played a midi file in winamp, recording "what u hear" in SF and the same bubbling, popping, crackling happened on playback of the SF file.....????

My system plays sounds cleanly but something (not audible while playing) is interfering during the recording I think...any ideas?

Alex

Are you using ASIO for recording. If so, did you make the latency adjustments in the ASIO Control panel?
