random time sound clicks.
hello.
i hear random time sound clicks. this happens in all applications. i mean. asio, directsound and everywhere. my hardware acceleration is set to maximum. speaker setup is 5.1 surround sound system. please help me to troubleshoot this issue. these clicks are very annoying. also my asio seems to not working correctly. whatever i latency i set it has some problems. i have recently upgraded my pc. 20ms latency: before it was working with 533Mhz Celeron, now its not working with my new 1.7Ghz @ 2.0Ghz Celeron. PCI/AGP=33/66Mhz i have installed my windows 2000 adv. server with ACPI but my sound card is not sharing IRQ (22). i have ct4830. 10x in advance. |

the readme file, recommends disabling ACPI before installation of the drivers.
device manager > computer > ACPI PC properties > update driver > standard PC. this way isn't recommended by microsoft, but it worked for me. the best thing to do if possible would be to to disable PNP in the bios, and then reinstall windows. this should install the system with ACPI disabled. |

i don't think that i have acpi problem.
i have checked this page http://kxproject.spb.ru/acpi.php?language=en there is written: "ACPI issues typically cause problems only when your soundcard shares an IRQ with other PCI/AGP cards" but my soundcard don't share its irq. my mainboard have apic that as i know support more irqs. my case its irq 22. my card use it alone. can this really be an acpi issue? |

update
when i use asio and setup my latency 42.66ms there are no clicks!, when i setup my latency to 21.33ms the clicks appear again. so is this acpi issue for sure, because i don't want to lose my acpi. and if this is acpi issue - can i change the latency for the MME/DS driver? so i can have ACPI + kxdrivers?
update 2: it seems that the clicks (in directsound-watch movies, warcraft) are in random interval (example 1 min. nothing and then few clicks then again some pause......) Last edited by imperia; Jan 3, 2003 at 07:13 AM. |

oops!
what I was going to say was.... if I had this problem, I would try the following: 1.disable ACPI (though you say you dont want to do this if at all possible) 2. change the IRQ of your sound card (i can't remember if win2k can change the IRQ in device manager or not, maybe you have to change them in the bios, *or try the sound card in a different pci slot*) 3. change PCI latency value in the bios. try setting it lower than what it was. if that doesn't work, try setting it higher than what it was. if things still don't work, set it back to what it used to be. |

some more explaition
all the noises are random noises/hum not frequent skipping/constant time interval.
can this be some kind of ground looping? |

[sorry for the delayed answer -- NewYear / Christmas holidays]
well, your issue might not be ACPI-related. what chipset are you using? is it VIA-based? -- read our article on the site, if yes does the click happen when you playback MIDI files? is it possible to record the click? [that is, reset the settings and try recording 'what you hear' (the default option) until you hear the click. is it reproduced in the recording?] do you have any CPUCool-like software running? try unloading ANY software you might have running and try reproducing the issue make sure you have reset the settings (via kX Mixer) before any experiments ...there might be some more reasons for the clicks... /Eugene |

try to increase your PCI latency (via BIOS)
it seems to be a hardware problem do NOT tweak the buffer sizes via kX Mixer (RESET the settings) also, try uninstalling MBM before additional tests /E |

BIOS
i do not have latency settings in bios. i have only some "Top Performace" with enable/disable options.
can MBM cause the problem when the clicks are at random interval? |

mbm
it seems that the problem was caused by mbm. i uninstalled it and now i have the lowest latency of 2.66ms..
10x for the help |
