Emu APS windows xp drivers...

hi

I'm just rebuilding my original DAW from 5 years ago !

This involves the APS, with soundfonts being piped out to the Audiophile 2496 (so I can work at 44.1 sample rate - I'm not really interested in the APS as a primary audio card).

The "new" (2003 !) official drivers seem to work fine - ASIO latency down to 2 ms on my P3 800 (if I should ever use it as an audio card).

More importantly, soundfonts work fine - with full 2.1 support (e.g. modulators, editable in Vienna) and 300MB+ loadable soundfonts.

I know this is probably the wrong place to ask (!) - I've tried the kx drivers and, although undoubatbly more powerful, I prefer the usability of the APS mixer I got used to in v1.5.

Does anyone have any experience of these drivers ? Any know bugs ?

Well, I dont have an APS, but I used the APSLive version (V1.81 I think) for some time in win98 and LOVED the immediate gratification that those drivers provided for an SBLive Value...

Alas, Ive upgraded to XP and A2ZSPlat - I was somewhat forced to decide - CL drivers or KX - Now, KX over CL drivers - there is NO CONTEST - KX... But to be honest, switching to KX from the APSLive drivers was a bit of a learning curve, but worth the efforts.

So unless someone knows about a known bug with the APS - Id say take the time to learn how to exploit KX. You probably wont be sorry.

I used the official APS drivers from EMU for a while to and then got ticked off because Cubase SE wouldn't let me select which bank I wanted to use when my MIDI out was one of the APS' two hardware synths.

Apparently, there is some sort of bug with both Cubase and the Creative SoundFont API that prevents you from accesing SoundFonts loaded into banks other than 0 on Creatives Card's. Most users have just put their sound fonts in VST wrappers to compensate for this but my limited experience has revealled that even with a P4 and tons of RAMBUS RAM VSTi are problematic.

The Kx drivers are supposed to have a patch for this sound font loading problem that traditional create user's experience but I haven't had a change to test it.

Right now, I'm trying to figure out why kx ASIO isn't working on my APS. It worked fine with the newer drivers from EMU that you were talking about, but then again sound font bank selection didn't work.

hi,
youve probs tried this already but if not try removing and reloading your drivers. i had the same problem with kx and my aps and this worked! you can use 'drivercleaner' to totally remove it and reinstall if this fails.
