Cs1x to Cubase Sx 2 With Kx drivers
hello,
i cannot seem to make this keyboard my controller. i cant figure out which input/outputs i set in device manager or inspector. im using kx drivers and when i set the output in the device manager there are lots of options there is midi mapper mpu-401 wavetable kx control generic kx synth generic kx uart generic and i dunno which to choose. when i make a midi channel in the inspector i set the input to "all midi in", and the only other options in inspector are: mpu401 kx control generic kx Uart so im lost atm basically what happens is i can get the patchs from the cs1x but i have to use the piano roll to play them(pressing the keys on the CS1x doesnt do anything and i have set local to off) what i want is just to be able to use my vsts with my keyboard instead of the piano roll. and for selection im not really use what to put in device manager. for output there i set it to: midi mapper and wavetable synth and then in the inspector i set it input" to all midi" output" CS1x ![]()

Im sorry im not a cubase pro, but Ill try to help anyway...
Most 10Kx based cards (whats yurs now?) the gameport/midi Interface is called 'KX UART' - the front panel one (for live drive/platinum) the midi port is called 'KX UART 2' So - MIDI INPUT is set to the correct one for you (looks like no FP for your setup, so use the KX UART for MIDI INPUT . Now, if you want to 'play an instrument' via the keyboard - you need to activate the track in which MIDI input will be sent to - in turn affects what ever MIDI device (like a VSTi) set to that track. in sonar its a matter of just selecting the track, but in reason - theres an Icon to enable MIDI IN. Im sure thats why your having problems, but Im not familiar with Cubase to give more specific direction. sorry

Check the Cubase help file for getting information about the internal functions. For input choose kX-UART, itīs the gameport connection, or kX-UART2, if you have connection with the front panel. This is mentioned in the post above. As output device in the inspector switch either to the CS1x or a virtual instument. To hear the singal you play, switch off the local sound of the CS1x and activate a receive channel. In Cubase activate the MIDI-Thru function and activate the monitoring function in the selected track. For the case you use a vsti, activate itīs sound machine and check in the vst-mixer for correct fader setting and routing. Finally check in Cubase Device Management whether your ports are active and working or not.

thx for the help but im doing something wrong.
i have it connected in my joystick so.... i set it to kX-UART then in inspector i set the input to kX-UART and output to vstation (the vst i wanna controll). i turned off the local on the CS1x and set the trans CH to 1. then in cubase i set the midi thru and active monitoring so they are both lit up. also what is sound machine for vst's? and correct fader setting and routing? and in device manager i couldnt find ports. everything in bank assign is set to voices. |

"Sound machine" is only a label for the vsti-engine, so set it up that the vsti can produce sound (parameters and volume knob to proper values). Then check in the VST-Mixer (the main mixer in cubase, see help file) for incoming sound from the VSTi (green channels afaik). If there is nothing, check in the selected MIDI track on the peak-meter for incoming MIDI-signals (flashing green bars if you hit a key on your keyboard). If there is no MIDI, then the port setup is wrong or your cable is broken. Check in the cubase device setup if the ports are active and working. Please refer to the cubase help file - it gives you a good advice!

I tried Cubase 3SX and all I needed to do was (other than the device setups) was:
Start new project - normal templet. (I did get errors of a missing plugin?? - some kind sync plugin (I assumed is SMPTE syncing related that I dont use) Load up a VSTi in the VST INSTRUMENTS panel. Set a midi track (provided by the templet) to send its output to the VSTi I loaded Set the track to monitor Press music keyboard keys - I get sound. Its REALLY low volume (in Tazman - VStation didnt load as a VSTi - even tho its in the list and I do have it installed, but I beleive it came with sonar, maybe thats my problem) I loaded a templet - becasue Ive read it takes a lot of 'setup' just to get cubase to do anything. ALSO - try swapping the MIDI IN to MIDI OUT on the joyport/midi interface - Ive seen some that were labled backwards. (or the label was describing what to connect it to on an external midi device - either way it was backwards from what I expected??) |
