Sad Sonar 4.0.3 & kX 3757: soundfonds not playing

Hi there.

I have a very disappointing problem.

With kX 3757 driver, SB Live! 5.1 soundcard and Sonar 4.0.3 Producer Edition, I can't get my miditracks to play with any soundfonts other than general midi.

When I open my midi file and load, for example, a General User soundfont (in kX mixer), everything plays great. But when I load another soundfont through Sonar options, e.g. Finger Bass, set appropriate channel, bank and patch in a corresponding track, it just produces no sound.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Try this: if u have a GM soundfont loaded via the kX Soundfont applet, unload it (and all other soundfonts). Now, just load soundfonts via SONAR's Options/Soundfont. That should work.

I dont know why it doesnt work when a GM soundfont is loaded via kX Soundfont applet. I think it may be that some GM soundfonts have instruments in more than just the Bank 0 position or something. Anyway, I found that things work OK when I unload the GM soundfont loaded via kX Soundfont applet. (Also, you may have to try selecting different Soundfont devices in the track's MIDI channel drop down list area).

If you want to use a GM MIDI soundfont, you can load that via SONAR's Options/Soundfonts, too.

You might wanna make a DSP setup that has no soundfonts loaded via kX Soundfont applet just for this purpose.

Pissed

Thank you for the reply, but I tried just about everything and it didn't work. When I load my bass soundfont through the Sonar options alone, strange thing happens. When I set appropriate options to the bass track, it produces no sound. But the acoustic guitar starts to play with bass sound and thats totally unexpected (it doesn't have track options set).

I can't figure out why is that acoustic steel guitar so special. Deleted all the patch changing instructions in all tracks that were genereted in my midi earlier, but still the acoustic guitar plays bass soundfont instead of the bass track.

There were no such problem with Sonar 2 XL, but I can't even install it, because it requires DirectX 8.1 while I have 9c, and the DirectX installing stage cannot be skipped in the Sonar 2 XL installator.

Forgot to say - as for the DSP setup, I have the simplest possible - 2 ProFX sources (audio and midi), MX6 mixer and a k1t output.

Man you probably messed-up something. Try using the kX Default DSP and see if things work right for you. I've used SONAR since it came out as SONAR. SONAR has no major issues like you describe. Check for user errors.

I would say go to the SONAR forum for help, but a lot of them hate SB cards and wil probably tell you to get another sound card.

Like I said, use different soundfont devices in the MIDI channel drop down list of the track (for example, Sondfont device 1,2,3,4,etc).

What you say is happening to you has happened to me, and unloading soundfonts that were loaded via kX Soundfont applet fixed it, as I loaded all sondfont via SONAR's Option/Sondfonts, and changed soundfont devices in the track. Also when you load a soundfont go down toward bank 11 and higher for testing.

If you dont want to try what I'm telling you about not loading .sf2's via kX Soundfont applet, all else I can say is use RGC Audio's free sfz soundfont player. And stop the whining. hehe

I came to a conclusion that the soundfonts I was trying to use (2 bass ones, downloaded from Hammersound) are just broken. Sonic Implants work fine, but I just don't like them.

Maybe I should try to switch to Cubase and VSTi, but it needs learning somewhat...

re-edit the sound font - maybe it will fix it just re-saving as a new file.
