Newbie Needs Help!!!!!!
Please Help Newbie With Stupid Questions
I Have A Dell P4 Dimension W 1.?p4 Proc And 3 Soublaster Live Value Cards For Some Reason I Can Only Get Sound Out Of One When I Play Mp3s In Jriver. When I Do Speaker Tests On The Other Two Cards I Get Sound Out Of The Other Two Cards. I Would Like To Have A Setup Like A Multiple Zone (differant Surround Sound Rooms 1 Card Each). And Another Settup All Cards Output As Though It Were One Big Surround Sound Room. I Hope To Use This In A Bus That I Am Converting To An Rv. I Think That This May Be An Issue With How I Setup In J.river (oh Yeah 11 Media Center) But I Am Also Confused With Kx Athough It Seems Powerfull. I Would Also Like To Use The Maximum Amount Of Outputs On Each Card For Speakers ( I Am More Concerned With Outputs Than Inputs And Would Like To Configure It With That In Mind) I Am Hopelessly Stuttering Around Its Interface And Sorry To Be So Inexperienced. Please Help... |

I could be wrong (I do not have a multiple card setup, so I am not completely sure how it works) but, I do not think it is possible to output the same signal (i.e. the same software audio source) to multiple cards at the same time.

I Know That it is. There are a number of people here and in other forums that use the kx driver for this purpose, I am just a little unsure of the routing and settings in both the j.river mediacenter which accepts multiple soundcards and windows as it relates to the kx drivers and my routing choices. It is all just a little confusing. I thought that I might bypass hours of tring to find resources to do this and find someone who has.

Yes, kX offers lots of possibilites, and I have seen many people set up different stereo zones using the different outputs on one card, but I have not really seen multiple surround zones across 3 different cards (with the possibility and using them as seperate zones (with different sources) and one big zone (same source)) like you describe. It is probably possible if the cards are pysically connected somehow, but you did not mention anything about that in your post. In any case, someone may be able to offer you help with that type of configuration, but while you are waiting you might want to provide more information about your setup (i.e. if and how the cards are physically connected to each other, the specific model numbers of your SB Live's, what version of kX your are using, your speaker setup (i.e. analog or digital), etc).

Ok, I understand what you are saying. J.river Media Center gives you this ability with seperate (non-interconnected) sound cards. I am not famialir with this software, but it sounds like most of the configuration stuff needed to setup your system the way you want, is done within J.river Media Center. I am not familiar with this software, so I cannot help with that, but someone else might be able to (I suspect someone here is familair with that software and can help with setting it up with kX). Sometimes it gets a little slow in this forum on the weekends (people out doing stuff and all), so all you can do is wait and see.

GOOD NEWS I GOT IT PRETTY WELL FIGURED OUT. Any help would still be appreciated. But it was a matter of routing it to differant zones within J.River Media Center. I am now getting sound at all zones and can play them individually or all together. I would still like some help with getting more analog outputs. Also if anyone knows more about J.River it would help I will still keep trying to learn more about kx driver but am happy to have everything working kind of like I want.

Are those 6 channel Live models (i.e. Live 5.1)? If so, then you shoud have 3 stereo analog ouptus on each card, but you said you are using surround on all 3 right? So then you are using all of the outputs. Do you mean under other setups (i.e. non surround)? I just want to make sure I understand you.

In any case (the following assumes that you have 6 channel versions of the SB Live, but if you do not, it should still give you a basic idea of how to seperate the outputs in kX).
Open up the KX DSP Window. Click on the "Save Settings" button and save your current configuration, so that it can be reloaded at another time. Right click in the DSP window and choose "Clear DSP". Right click in the DSP window and choose "Add Effect/Plugin --> "Default" --> "FxBus". Right click in the DSP window and choose "Add Effect/Plugin --> "Default" --> "epilog". If you hold the mouse cursor over the little connectors on the plugins, a tooltip will popup with the name of the connector. Check out the names of the connectors on FxBus and epilog. We are interested in FxBus4, FxBus5, FxBus6, FxBus7, FxBus8, and FxBus9 (on Fxbus), and Analog Front Left, Analog Front Right, Analog Rear Left, Analog Rear Right, Analog Center, and Analog Subwoofer (on epilog). Under the dafault kX Router settings: FxBus4 and FxBus5 are the left and right channels for kX Wave(4/5). FxBus6 and FxBus7 are the left and right channels for kX Wave(6/7). FxBus8 and FxBus9 are the left and right channels for kX Wave(8/9). Those are your three seperate stereo inputs, and if you connect each stereo pair to one of the stereo outputs of epilog, then you have 3 seperate stereo inputs and outputs that you can use independantly of each other. (Click and drag between an output connector of one plugin and an input connector of another plugin to make a connection. (Inputs are on the left, and outputs are on the right). Hold down the ALT key to connect a single virtual wire (sometimes it will autoconnect mutiple ones if you do not hold down the ALT key). i.e. FxBus4 --> Analog Front Left FxBus5 --> Analog Front Right FxBus6 --> Analog Rear Left FxBus7 --> Analog Rear Right FxBus8 --> Analog Center FxBus9 --> Analog Subwoofer Configure your software to use kX Wave(4/5) to send it to Line_Out1, kX Wave(6/7) to send it to Line_Out2, or kX Wave(8/9) to send it to Line_Out3. That would be a specific configuration to give you 3 independant stereo inputs/outputs, but some things would not work under this configuration (i.e. kX midi synth's). That should get you started. There are many possible different configurations you can setup with kX for various purposes. If you read the kX help and guides, you will start to understand how kX works, then you can make you own custom configurations for different purposes, and save and load them as you need them. I hope that is the info you were looking for regarding getting more analog outputs. |

What do you want to route to what exactly?! You can primary route all inputs to all outputs. Simply wire in the DSP-window a physical input source to a physical output. Best way to do it very flexible, is to use the ProFX-package of pugins. Read more about it in the specified threads in the DSP-forum.

Maybe It is best to think of this in terms of just getting 1 card with a good 5.1 surround sound setup because it is irrelevant that there are 3 cards as J. River addresses that and I can Route them either independantly or send to all zones ("cards"). So How about a good 5.1 analogue setup. I downloaded some preset dsp's but they were too confusing to figure out what is what. I could not get sound out to the Center / analogue Sub output (also known as digital out) right? It is an SB Live Value. Help?

For a surround setup, you need only to use the default configuration and to set Surrounder to the mode you want. If your cards are only 4.0 channel cards (I did ask a couple of time about specific model numbers, etc. but you did not answer) then you would set Surrounder to 4.0 Movie Mode, for 4 channel surround sound.

Sorry I Did not know the model # at that point. It is a CT 4780. Can I Just use one of the other cards for a sub out? Seems pointless maybe I should just use the Live 5.1 or normal what is a better choice.

Yeah, the CT4780 is a 4.0 card. I think your safest bet is to go for a 5.1 model, but you should check the kX FAQ, and the forum (i.e. bug reports, etc), to find out which model #'s are compatible with kX and which one's work best with kX. (USB based models, and the 'Live! 24 bit' are not supported).
