kx 3538i - can't install gameport

Hi all!

I have a very big problem. I've been always using Creative drivers, later i found this kX Project and out of couriosity installed the driver (3537) and it worked flawlessly.

I was (yea, was, because i can't anymore) using 1 device attached to gameport, it worked with no problems. Few days ago i was going to try some game in which i needed jostick, so i attached that one into usb (it has gameport-usb adapter) and for some unknown reason it was not installed, although for the installation this device does not need any drivers (both devices were connected, 1 usb, 1 gameport). So, i said to myself maybe there is newer version of kx drivers and downloaded 3538i. Install began and when it asked me if i want to install driver for joystick device, it failed (i clicked 3 times continue, but then at the finish it told me that install of that driver failed because of an error and that will install it later; later did not work either). I've found out i can't use gameport anymore.

I've completly removed all kx drivers, installed creatives and the god d***** gameport was still not working. I removed creatives drivers, installed kx drivers (3538i) and the same error pops up, saying it can't install driver because of an error.

I have SB!Live Value. What can i do? How can i dig out myself from this deep s**t i am in? Gameport driver just doesn't want to be installed, something screwed up and i really don't know what or where.

Please, help me out!

Regards, Andrej.

System Specs

the gameport works perfectly for me, strange

try uninstalling it from the system control panel, and allowing windows to detect it automatically upon reinstall

that might work

Hi!

I removed all drivers, took the sound card out of motherboard, restarted and in device manager found some Unknown device with exclamation mark. Being dumb as i am i can't figure it out what this unknow device is (lol). The system is same as before. It seems there is trouble with windows, the last thing i need is format.

So, this is what i got in device manager:

Other Devices
- ! Unknown device (wth!?)
Sound, video and game controllers
- ! kx 10k1 audio - game port

System devices
- ! sm bus controller

"The driver installation file for this device is missing a necessary entry. This may be because the INF was written for Windows 95 or later. Contact your hardware vendor."

For all above mentioned devices i get same error (written above this text), except for the unknown device, for which windows can't find driver, neither do i.

Sys. spec:
- winxp sp2/all patches/fixes
- amd 64 3000
- asus k8ne
- 768mb ram
- x800xt
- sblive value

Problem solved!

It was all my fault for being asshole and following minimalistic windows install guide. "You can delete windows/inf dir, no use for it, just driver information that comes with windows." It seems its very useful, actually if you delete this dir you can screw your system pretty bad i'd say. Thx god i have another win installation on another partition, which i don't use, its there just in case.

I have both devices connected and they both work!

Sorry for all the troubles i caused you and thx for help!

Its all about the learning.... I BET (or I sincerely hope anyway) you'll never delete that directory ever again...

Lesson learned - Check.
