A question about the 48Khz thing

Well, lately, I've been interested in knowing what would be the benefits of the 96Khz/24-bit ASIO compared to the 48/16-bit...

I was playing with my vsti's and I noticed that with a high pitch trumpet note the sound would distort at 48Khz/16-bit and at 96/24 would sound fine. Besides that, I can't really say there was a big sound difference.

So, the fact that there's no distortion at high frequencies with 96/24 is really due to the fact that is 96/24?

It depends on the type of distortion...

1) Level differences - 24bit has more headroom than 16 bit - or a wider range of soft to loud volumes. - depending on how (or if) 24 bit is converted to 16 bit, could cause clipping.

2) ALIASING distortion (Usually associated with 'high pitch' tones, and DOES sound like your case here) will happen at lower freqencies with 48 Khz than 96Khz.

So - I will answer YES - its because its 24/96 is why it sounds clearer.
