Newbie DSP Confusion

Hi.

I've just started fooling around with the DSP and am immediately confused by something. My speakers are plugged into the Analog Front Out (green) socket of my Audigy 2 Value card, (model no SB0400) but the only way I get audio is when the front left and front right outputs of the surrounder are connected to the SPDIF, yes, SPDIF ports on the Epilog. The SPDIF faders on the KXMixer affect the audio level. Can anyone explain? Thanks,

Mick Berg.

Well, I didn't use 3538I very long, I dont think I used spdif out from it, 3538H and 3538J both do/did work for me.

There is also a switch on the main KX mixer page to 'Swap Front And Rear' - make sure that is set correctly.

Make sure Windows Sound and Audio properties - Speaker setup is set to 5.1.
Then in KX Surrounder - select the speakers setup you have.

For DVD playback - AC3 pass through would be needed for you are using your internal DVD player - the audio (in XP, by default) DOES NOT use the SPDIF, it sends audio vai the IDE cable, to allow CD ripping I presume. So, if you DO have the SPDIF cable connected from the internal DVD player - go to the windoes device manager and change the DVD - uncheck 'Enable digital CD ausio for this CD-ROM device'. This will make use of the SPDIF.
Then enable AC3 Passthrough in KX.

Alternatively - you can try 'redocnexk' - its a thread in the forums here - it can encode AC3 stream for outputting VIA a SPDIF port to an external speaker/HT receiver.

Hope that helps.

Search the forum. There are some other threads about this issue and the Audigy 2 Value (SB0400).
