Swapping Cards in Cakewalk

Since Sonar will only recognize 1 card, how do I get it to recognize my audigy 2. Right now it is only seeing the audigy 1 card. Or is there a music recording software program that will let me use asio drivers and inputs from both cards?

In a side note, my breakout box is complete, and it works perfectly. I now have 4 more 1/4" mono inputs or 2 stereo ( I put switches to select mono or stereo on the box). It plugs into the AUX_IN on both soundcards. It took me a long while to figure out the routing, but it comes in on the AC97_2 inputs. I'll post pics when I get a chance.

To get SONAR to recognize your Audigy 2, disable the Audigy in Device manager and then install drivers for the Audigy 2, if not already installed. If drivers are already installed for the Audigy 2, just disabling the Audigy should be enough.

Thanks for the link to that thread, but I already have the two cards hooked together. I have 2 live drives, and I connected the audigy 2 (sb0240) spdif out (RCA)on the audigy2 live drive to the spdif in on the audigy 1(SB0090). All of my analog inputs(8 mono tracks) on the audigy 2 (0240) go into the DIGITAL in on the SB0090. Sonar only "sees" the SB0090 in asio mode, so I only have the 6 analog inputs from the SB0090 and the mixed input from the SB0240. Since Sonar only sees the 0090, I cannot record the individual inputs to different tracks from the 0240. I would rather lose the inputs from the Sb0090 and have the inputs from the 0240 available in ASIO. My question is how do I get Sonar to swap which card it sees in ASIO? I cannot select which card to use from ASIO control panel, it is greyed out.
I know from reading threads that Sonar can only use one card for ASIO. So how do I switch them?

Oh yeah, u may have to delete the cakewalk.ini and maybe the TTSSEQ.ini too. Since the Audigy 2 supports more sample rates.

so disable audigy in device Manager, delete Cakewalk.ini and TTSSEQ.ini, in SONAR Producer Edition Directory, Install drivers for Audigy2, reopen SONAR and do the Wave profiler test, change to ASIO driver mode in SONAR if that's what u use. That should do it. If SONAR now sees the Audigy 2, enable the Audigy again. If SONAR doesnt see the Audigy 2, u might have to uninstall the drivers for the Audigy and then reinstall once SONAR recognizes the Audigy 2.

OK but wait here fellas. I don't understand why you need to disable a card. No software that I know of will recognize 2 ASIO cards, but as long as the 2 cards are digitally hooked together, you should be able to use all the inputs of both cards.

Unless I misunderstand what is going on, can't you just run a cable from Audigy 1 SPDIF out to Audigy 2 SPDIF In, then select the Audigy 2 in the kX ASIO control panel?

Now Sonar should see the Audigy 2, and all the inputs from the Audigy 1 should be available from the prolog of the Audigy 2.

sonar may only see the "first" ASIO card, but there should be an option to choose which ASIO driver you use

Doug W:

The deal is that SONAR already sees his Audigy, but he wants it to see his Audigy 2. Once SONAR sees an ASIO driver, it wont use another ASIO driver unless the ASIO driver it sees is clear from SONAR recognizing it.

So to have SONAR see the Audigy 2 instead, I gave the advice above. After SONAR sees the Audigy 2, he can then enable the Audigy and use the extra inputs.

Do you see, the plan, now?

My understanding is that SONAR is only seeing his Audigy. So I said to disable the Audigy until it sees his Audigy 2. If he can use the Audigy 2 running a cable from Audigy 1 SPDIF out to Audigy 2 SPDIF In, then selecting the Audigy 2 in the kX ASIO control panel, even though SONAR only sees the Audigy, he should do that, of course. I wasnt aware such a thing could be done, since I only have 1 sound card.

So, I hope he reads your post and tries that.

Thomas is absolutely correct and that fixed the problem. I still had all the inputs available, I just couldn't RECORD the individual inputs on the A2 to individual tracks. I want to record as many simultaneous inputs to individual tracks, and since the A2 has more inputs, I need to use that card for ASIO. The ASIO control panel in sonar would not allow me to swap between which card to use card selection was greyed out. And you were right, just disabling the A1 didn't fix it, I also had to delete the .ini files because the first time I enabled the A1, Sonar went right back to using that card for ASIO.
Thanks for the help....

I understand now. So at this point, anytime that the Audigy 1 is enabled, Sonar reverts back to it?

Yes. Unless the Cakewalk.ini (well appropriate .ini file/s) is deleted. Then, all driver info is deleted from SONAR's sight until the next time SONAR is started an searches for driver info to store.

It is possible that kX users probably do a lot more card swapping than other people, something of an affliction with us. Sounds like something that Sonar needs to fix.
