Sound Font related...

Hello,

I have this application loaded called " Infinity " from Sound Quest.
If i try to output this softsynth i made through Midi, i'm able to load
some sound fonts fine , and i hear something. My question is; how do i go by changing the sound i hear in the sound font bank? I mean, is there any way to change the sound from let say a piano sound in the sound font bank to a clavinet via the KX mixer alone?

Thanks!

First it depends on the sound font file - some have multiple instruments - like a piano AND a klavinet... So, simple 'PATCH CHANGES' can be sent to access another sound.
BANK is also part of accessing more patches with in a soundfont file.

This IS NOT editing a sound tho. This is simply 'PATCH SELECTION'

EDITING is completely different...
A sound font file is a set of 'SAMPLES' and synthesizer parameters.

So - to edit a soundfont file to sound like a real clavinet - will require samples of a 'real clavinet'.

There are other software synths that are NOT sample or soundfont based, and you can edit in such a manner that you mention - but the KX Synth 1/2, as well as any Software SOUNDFONT based synth, will inherently be 'sample' based.

In any case 'Vienna' from CL is a sound font editor and comes with their sound cards - or free off their web site.
Another is Awave - but its shareware.

Read up more on what a soundfont file is - theres a bit to them - but a gui like vienna makes it much easier to learn. The docs and knowledge base of KX main site has technical docs - or google 'SOUNDFONT EDIT' and you should find tutorials and info.

Sound Font related...

Hello Maddogg6,

Many thanks for answering; the SoundFont i'm using is " 4mbgmsfx.sf2 " and i know it is multitimbral. In my 1st message , i told you i was using a soft synth i made with "Infinity" from Sound Quest; more to the point it actually is a small sequencer wich i'm able to output via midi. From within the sequencer , it seems impossible though to select another timbre in the " 4mbgmsfx.sf2 " itself. Is there a way to do just that within the KX applet (v. 3537 ) at all?
I'm not concerned with soundfont editing for now.

Many thanks again!

Im sorry, Im not familiar with Infinity software - so I cant help with that.

But - MIDI (as a specification) allows 1 patch per midi channel - so another patch CAN be played on another MIDi Channel

For instance - Piano sound on MIDI CH 1, and a violin on MIDI CH 2.

Hope that helps..

Michel:

The only way I know to change patches or banks is with a keyboard or MIDI controller that has a bank change and/or patch change button on it.

Alternatively, you can download the free MIDI OX utility (search on Yahoo or google) and it has a drop down menu that allows you to change MIDI patches.

See this article for the download link to MIDI OX, and see if the information in the article may be of use to you: http://kb.kxproject.lugosoft.com/Sta...I-Keyboard.pdf

Oh yeah, and a kX user named Zvukovacz made this soundfont player/manager for kX users:
