djjon is on a distinguished road

do usb /pcmcia cards disable on board card

Hi all

I'm looking to use my laptop for DJ work and unfortunately the KX drivers wont work with PCMCIA cards, my other way is to use the on board audio PLUS a USB or PCMCIA card for the other output.

My question is do the drivers for USB or PCM disable the on board?

Or does anybody have any other suggestions?

Thanks

You'll have more options if going USB - but more to lug around compared to a PCMCIA card.

Edirol/Roland & M-Audio - have USB AUDIO DEVICES -

Another possibility if you have IEEE-1394 - Mark of the Unicorn has some nice upper end rack mounted deals with like 8 IN/OUT stereo + MIDI ports IIRC.. was more like $800 US last I looked (its been a while)

You 'best' way to go, sort of depends on the DJ software you use - look at THEIR recommdations and consider those first. At the very least learn about any known issues with the hardware you are considering - maybe contact their support people and explain your situation and ask them their opinions as well - their opinions will be worth a WHOLE lot more than the likes of mine.

there's an ECHO PCMCIA card designed for DJ'ing, with two stereo outputs, one for monitoring, and another for front of house. That might be a nice option

As far as USB sound goes, i'm not liking the inherent latency built into USB (or at least the Windows implementation of it) so i'd more likely recommend a firewire based device over USB
