Sound problems in FS2004
HI there,
I love to play around with Microsoft Flight Simulator (FS2004). I am using a creative audigy 2 ZS sound card. Since the game was freezing with certain aircraft sounds, I changed from the creative drivers to the kx drivers. The freezing was gone, that was very good. But another issue came up: The sound has some crackling noises, especially with loud volumes, for example take off with full throttle. Has onybody an idea how to solve this issue? Are there any certain settings within in the kx drivers that could solve the problem? Thank you for any hint. Regards, Stefan |

Try lowering the hardware acceleration when playing the game (leave it set to full when not playing the game).
Try using kX Wave 4/5 instead of kX Wave 0/1 for the default playback device. Both of the above settings can be changed in 'Sounds and Audio Devices' in the Windows Control Panel. |

Well - I have this game too - But, I have the Windows default playback device as 'KX WAVE HQ' - where Russ was directing you to use Wave 4/5.
If your NOT using default DSP config - the audio is available on the P16V plugin when the WAVE HQ device is used. @Russ: A2zs - have this WAVE HQ device. I havent had problems using this with most any games. Well the few I have. Just fyi about the A2zs - not sure if all A2's have it tho - he mentioed it was a ZS. Beers... Er - I mean - Cheers. |

I have tried the settings that RUSS suggested... and it works!! Very good, thank you for that hint.
Just another question by the way: What impact has the hardware acceleration of the sound? Is there any case where there is less performance when having lowered the hardware accelaration? Regards, Stefan |

I am not an expert on it, but hardware acceleration means that it is faster processing sounds, and probably means the CPU has to do less work to do (as some of it is handled by the sound card) thus speeding up everything. With kX, some things will not work correclty (i.e. ASIO) if hardware acceleration is not set to FULL, so it should be left on FULL, except when playing your game. BTW: This is a common troubleshooting step for sound issues with games with any driver (i.e. the same thing probably would have worked with the CL drivers).
