Can I use multiple SPDIF outs in my program using Wave xx/xx devices ?

I very much hope you can help me. I am almost at the end of a long journey and now I am stuck. I have been working for almost two years on a high-end digital PC crossover. Basically I take SPDIF input via a soundcard, then do DSP filtering and filtered signal want to send to individual speaker drivers, i.e. tweeter and woofer. Iw works perfectly with digital in and analog outs but I wanted to reach for more - SPDIF outs - in theory, and I do hear it, it gives a better quality (better clarity of sound). And I understood that an SB card with kX droivers is my dream solution. It offers three independent stereo SPDIF outs that I can access using DirectSound from my C++ program with the help of Wave 3/4, Wave 5/6, Wave 7/8 devices. And one of the key things is synchronization of all three SPDIFs ast they would get sample rate from one clock as I assume (?). In theory everything is OK but I spent quite a few hours yesterday and no success - analog outs worked but from SPDIF jack - no sound. Then I have doubts - is the thing I imagined at all possible with SB and kX drivers (I used 3538i drivers) ? If yes, what are the proeconditions ? I was playing with all options I could find but no avail. Now I have a few hypotheses, if you could comment please on that: 1. I use Audigy 2 Value SB0400 - maybe SPDIF outs are not supported by the current kX realease ? 2. Audigy 2 Value does not have an AUD_EX extension where also SPDIF out pins sit. Maybe this SPDIF out goes only to the AUD_EX not to the Digital I/O jack ? 3. I am using a stereo jack not the original SB. It is not quite the thing but I should at least hear the Front SPDIF. I also tried Audigy 1 SB 0570 but then kX drivers did not even recognized the card. Is it not supported ? I would be really thankful if could help me out with this ! 3. I am using a stereo jack not the original SB, this could be to blame. It is not quite the right connector but I should at least hear the Front SPDIF as I do with the standard Audigy drivers ? I also tried Audigy 1 SB 0570 but then kX drivers did not even recognized the card. Is it not supported ? I would be really thankful if could help me out with this ! 3. I do not have a digital setup, so I do not know all the details, but...
With kX, I think you would want to set Surrounder+ to 5.1 Direct Path mode. Then you would use kX Wave 4/5, kX Wave 6/7, and kX Wave 8/9 to use the individual analog or SPDIF outputs (some kind of custom cable would be needed for the SPDIF outputs). You probably want to use Digital Output Only mode as well, when using the SPDIF outputs (I do not know if the Digital jack on those cards doubles as an analog jack or not (like it does on some card models)). As for the card models you mentioned, I do not know if they are supported (or fully supported) by kX or not. |

Russ - after some research on the forum I have exactly the same conclusions - Digital Output Only + check about the support for my specific card are the answer. But I when I was playing with Mixer I think I could not find the DOO option there - version 3538i. Where should it sit ?
Also I am wondering if when I have a SB Audigy card that is labeled as SB 0570 and it is not listed inside the kx.inf file can I try to add it by simply taking the PCI DeviceID string and inserting it into the kx.inf file. I tried it yesterday but kx install still said it did not recognize the card as compatible. Or is there sth else to configure (clearly assuming that SB0570 is EMU10k-like but I think all Audigy should be ?) |

It is sold in Poland as an Audigy SE. In the shops they say it is Audigy 1. It is the cheapest Audigy available, does not have extension pins. ...Poor man's (country's) card.

There is a better picture of it here:
http://www.fcenter.ru/foto.shtml?48547:56815 It looks like it uses the same chip as the SB Live! 24 Bit / Audigy LS, which is not supported by kX. Regarding the SB0400, I am pretty sure it is supported by kX, but I think it is not fully supported (fully functional) as of yet, but I cannot be sure. The are some people in this forum with SB0400 cards, so hopefully they can give you the details about that. Regarding DOO mode, according to another post that I read, 10k2 cards do not have that option, so I guess it is not necessary with those cards (the digital jack is probably digital only). I have 3 pairs of I2S AND 3 pairs of SPDIF - on the back of the card alone - then theres the AUD_EXT connector also. Confirmed - DIGITAL JACK IS DIGITAL ONLY on A2zs (sb350) |
