audigy 1 + oboard realtek sound, (problem solved)
Hi all,
The topic of combining two soundcards has been talked about over and over many times before. I am trying to combine an audigy card with my onboard realtek ALC655. What I wanted to to was use the onboard sound's line in jack for an analog tape deck input. This way If I needed another line in, the audigy's line in would still be open so I wouldn't have to swap cables when I need to use the audigy's line in. I have used the information in those topics and still can't get this to work. okay here is what I have: a motherboard with realtek sound (ALC655)which has an spdif out header on it. pinout layout pin function 4. spdif out 3. vcc 2. key 1. GRND I have set up one cd rom cable to go between this header and the cd spdif in on the audigy using dj_stick's instructions from a previous topic. I am still using the standard dsp setup for my audigy. so I finished setting up using dj_stick's instructions (unmuting the cd digital in and AC97 2 when I re routed the ac97 codec through I2S). I hoked up the tape deck through the line in on the onboard soundcard after hooking up the internal spdif cable. I set up the onboard sound to play both digital and analog through the spdif out header. then I pressed play on the tape deck and no sound came out (tapedeck has power and the audio cable is plugged in correctly.) am I doing something wrong? Are the spdif headers not meant for this? am I just going to have to custom make a jack for the free aux in header on the audigy? I am not a soldering genius so making any pcb stuff is is impossible. any help or comments are appreciated. Last edited by Panther30; Feb 5, 2006 at 07:36 AM. |

did you connect the m/b header to the right pins?
also during playback from your tape deck, check each SPDIF input with a peak meter in the DSP, until you find one that is playing, and then you can set your dsp/mixer accordingly if you don't get any level on any of the inputs, you'll need to re-configure your onboard sound

yeah, I'm pretty sure I did: spdif out and grnd on the motherboard and spdif in and grnd on the cd spdif in on the audigy and I have swapped the cable around several times trying to get it to work. and No I didn't connect the cd spdif to the peak meter to check it. though when I try this again I will do that.

OOPS! had it plugged into the wrong header on the motherboard. The SPDIF out was right next to the cd in and the header wasn't colored black at the base like the cd in was so it was hard to see. I plugged the cable into that header then I reversed the cd spdif in cable on the audigy (I had it plugged in upside down).
after these two changes, I have sound from my tape deck (which is hooked up to the onboard sound's line in) THANKS Dj_stick! |
