Win98,SBLive!5.1Platinum,kX3537 -- no luck yet!
Hi --
I've been struggling to get the kX drivers to work. I've tried cleaning with DCPro, I've reinstalled the OS twice (!), and whatever I do, the result is always the same -- the post-install reboot message on boot-up, and the "Code 2" message in the Device Manager / General tab. Please, can anyone help? Thanks -- Fred Goldrich |

You do mean Win 98SE right? 98 First Edition is not supported by kX.
So assuming that you have the following: 1. Win 98SE 2. DirectX 8 (at least) installed 3. Internet Explorer 6 installed If missing any of the 3 above, update first, then try a manual update. In Control Panel choose System->Device Manager->Sound, Video and game controllers->kX 10k1 Audio - Model CT4832 ValuekX (in my case)->Driver tab->Update driver button->browse to C:\Program Files\kX Project\3537 |

Yes, thanks, Win98SE it is . So assuming that you have the following: 1. Win 98SE (4.10, Build 2222) 2. DirectX 8 (at least) installed DirectX 9.0b(4.09.000.0902) 3. Internet Explorer 6 installed IE 6.0.2600.0000IC If missing any of the 3 above, update first, then try a manual update. In Control Panel choose System->Device Manager->Sound, Video and game controllers->kX 10k1 Audio - Model CT4832 ValuekX (in my case)->Driver tab->Update driver button->browse to C:\Program Files\kX Project\3537 I've done that, and unfortunately it brings no improvement. I appreciate the help. What should I try next? -- Fred Goldrich P.S. BTW, the System Properties / Device Manager tab says that the kX 10k1 Audio - Game Port is working fine -- though, to be sure, it's using old MS drivers. |

Have you already tried just switching to a new PCI slot?

Another thing that has worked for some people who have had trouble installing 3537 with Win 98SE is to install an older version first.
Uninstall kX first if you can: Probably a good idea to uninstall what you have of kX if that is possible. Start->Programs->kX Project->Uninstall kX Project package (Version 3537) Install 3534f You can download that from TravelRec's site http://www.electricstart.de/site/kxdr.htm Then install 3537 UPDATE version (not full). Download here: http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/down.php?language=en Last edited by Doug W; Feb 8, 2006 at 11:01 PM. |

Changing slots was a good idea -- I wouldn't have thought of it myself -- but sorry to say that one didn't do the trick either.
Thanks for both that idea and the next, which I'm about to do. (I'm on dial-up, so it will be a little while.) But I'll give the old two-step a try and get back to you with the results. |

...and the results of Step 1: Success! -- 3534f installed flawlessly!
I'll be back with the results of Step 2 -- many thanks! |

...and Step 2 was equally successful. I don't yet have it configured to work with all my applications, but so far I'm very impressed with what I've heard.
I'm very grateful for your help. -- Fred Goldrich |

there can be also a problem when the installer copy the kx.sys into the system32 folder. i had it also and to fix this, delete the kx.sys in the system32 folder and copy the right one (for w98se) in the system32 folder.
for me this solved all problems. regards

Since I installed in two steps, I've got two different kx.sys files -- one in the \3534 directory and one in the \3537. The one in the SYSTEM32 folder has the same size and modification date as the on in \3537. Is there something else I should do? Thanks. P.S. Wie glücklich, in der Nähe Wien zu wohnen! |

normally there are 2 kx.sys in the 3537 directory, kx.sys and kx98.sys.
when installing the driver on w98se, in my case the ky.sys was installed and nothing works. so i think the install routine should copy and rename the kx98.sys to kx.sys in the system directory. the kx.sys size is 571.776 the kx98.sys size is 571.520 regards

Gerald --
Thanks for clarifying. In Windows Explorer, with file sizes rounded to the nearest KB, the two files appear identical. It turns out mine are installed correctly, but it would have been hard for me to verify that without having the accurate file size numbers. |

It's a bit confusing, because Windows Explorer shows kx.sys as 559 KB. Right clicking the file and choosing properties, it shows the file at 558KB (571.520 bytes).

1) the actual ammount of bytes that the file is. 2) The above value rounded up. 3) The ammount of disk space used to store that file (dependiong on file system, chunk sizes vary - thus if chunk sizes are 4KB (4096 bytes) a 6 KB (6144 Bytes) will actually use 2 4KB chunks and be reported as an 8KB file. Thats my understanding - and Im only making an 'educated' guess. Which place reports what - I dunno. But I DO know the 3 cases are possible. |
