??? Little doubts with 3835j

Hello Everyone

Iīm barely an average non technical , near dummy kind of user.

Installed the last build , 3835j and every sounds all right. My only doubt by now is if the ProFX (apparently the same old ones) should work OK with this new build.

I Can wait for the final UFX or replace some of them with the new effects, but my favorite setups consists in basically proFX setups, wich seems to work fine.

Is this OK?.

Do You recommend me the latest build over the 3735, for some cool reason?

By the way, thanks to the generous people who shares their talents to provide theese great tools for us, struggling musicians.

THanks and thanks
Sergio

You are correct - ProFx has some flaws in 3638J - while they still function - unless you already know where things are - finding sliders and buttons in the ADC GUI can be hard.

3537 - was the last 'NON-BETA' version of KX - thats why many will reccomend that version.

Depending on exact card model and what KX features you require - could depend on the 'best' version for you. I have an SB350 - I don't *need* the profx ADC - so I am pretty happy with 3538J - most 'bugs' (the few I find) are easily worked around for me.

KX V3538H - plus a really nice update to ProFx (update to profx was seperate) I liked and used all the time.

Thanks Maddog

Iīve never used the ADC, even donīt know what is it for,
what is it for ?? :-)

I use midi Channel 10 a lot , and up to my understanding, it is not fixed in 3835H

I feel inclined to use the lastest version because of the shorter latencies and pops.
and some improvemts in the dsp window (Conecting cables , etc...)

So, The minor bugs or problems with older ProFX are just that, minor bugs?

The ADC (in V3538J its called 'AC97' - which may clue in to its use also) - is a tiny interface to:
1) partially replace the PROLOG (which supplies physical AC97 input signals with in the KX DSP window)
2) Allows one to use the 'MIC' input and 1 half of the 'LINE-IN' for at the same time. - It basically re-routs the MIC to one side of the LINE-IN - as far as the DSP is concerned.

Midi Ch10 worked fine in H - it was V3538I - that the bug existed.
It was fixed in V 3538J

Also - Russ (A fine gentleman here in these forums) DID create a KX ADDON that DOES fix the MIDI ch 10 bug in V3538I.
Found here:
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/bug-reports/98680-3538j-ac3-decode.html

I have ONLY noticed 1 more additional bug that may or, may not affect you, concerning AC3 decoding from an external source as reported here:

http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthread.php?t=98680

keep in mind - I've made plenty mistakes in understanding some of the cards/KX intended function - and its possible Im making some mistake on that also - but I have tried various players and settings and *think* Im right... It may ONLY affect my card model (SB350 - cant test on other card) - I'm more of a midi kinda guy - but I like to tinker and learn new stuff too.

I (so far) have decided to stick with 3538J personally - I see a significant sound quality inmprovement in using SPDIF IN from my guitar FX processor -

Oh - also. There was also a need to make a change in the KX MIDI SYNTH COMPATIBILITY settings -

It was noticed that pre-mature note-stealing was occuring when the 'Legacy Decay/Release' is un-checked - which is NOT checked by default... so I unchecked that to improve it. It's also reported as a bug, and its one I can easily live with.

The more options, the harder to decide.!!

If You would like to advice me about kx versions , this is my main use and current setup :

- I do 80% of midi sequencing and not so heavy mixing , and track recording
(Generally jingles, film music , less than 16 tracks...)

I use Sonar 4 with some dx Instruments (Edirol SuperQuartet, Orchestral)
, and reason 2.5 generaly as an array of samplers , synths or drum machines running in rewire mode.

I externally Control a JV2080 Roland Module and a NordElectro 73 keyboard
wich is also my controller.
I connect them to a 12 track Mackie Mixer with sends to the LINE IN connector of the SB Live.

My Soundblster card is and old SB live! (Itīs there a more specific indentification ??)

As You recommended me some time ago, I do not use kX Mixer , but a simple ProFX setup with 4 src , mx6 , asio and klt output to speakers, wich I consider beautiful and flexible to do anything i want or need with signal routing

mmm, Thatīs all.

Very much apreciate your advice Maddog

KX V3538J did improve my ASIO performance over H (I didnt use 3538I because of the Midi CH10 bug)

You can still use Prolog for the physical inputs - Its what I will do until ProFX is updated for 3538J.

ProFX/AC97 still works - but I find it cumbersome to use with the GUI messed up..

So it boils down to your choice of -

1) better ASIO perfomance and living with bug in ProFX/AC97 with 3538J
2) really nice PROFX/AC97 (called ADC - w/ extra ProFX upgrade) and slightly degraded ASIO in 3538H

Even tho 3538I has a fix for midi ch10 - I didn't test it long enough to have a solid answer on it.

BUT seeing as you don't know what ADC is - Id say stick with 3538J - Use Prolog - and put a check in the KX SETTINGS - Synth Compatability - 'Legacy Decay/Release' if you hear pre-mature note stealing.

Thanks Maddog,

I think Iīll really compare the ASIO thing and if it is noticeable for me between H and J, waiting for UFX, PROFX and all the toys.

Good Luck
