Next remove the (4)
screws on the bottom of the drive and remove it. Now you will want to remove the single screw holding down the small PCB. There is a latch on the right side that you have to depress and then pull up and to the right with the PCB to free it from the drive, then just flip it over. The LiteOn CD-RW requires a 3 lead multi color LED, as to where the LiteOn DVD drive requires a standard Green 2 lead 3mm LED in order for it to fit back into the factory plastic holder. Since I was unable to locate a 3mm LED in any color locally, I went ahead and bought a 5mm Blue LED for this project. Since it is only slightly bigger and does not require you to use the plastic holder, it works out fine and in the end looks great. As you can see in this picture, the 3 solder connections below the paper clip are for the CD-RW’s multi colored LED and the 2 solder connections above the paper clip are for the DVD and CD drives. For this mod, using the DVD drive, you will want to use the wide tip on your soldering iron to heat the 2 connections at the same time, while pulling on the LED holder. It should come out quite easily and quickly if you have a good hot iron. Once the LED is removed you will want to remove any excess solder from the PCB by using your WIK material. Just lay the WIK material over top of the solder that you want removed and firmly press the soldering iron against it for a few seconds. The heat from the soldering iron will melt the solder and the WIK material will absorb the old solder.
