UATX Power Supply

The form factor of my mobo (ASUS P4S-LA) is UATX, and I noticed after installing my vid card that the stock power supply is only 200W. Shouldn't HP have shipped it with a better PSU?

HP? They will stop at nothing to cut costs, and giving you a cheap power supply, especially when chances are that you are going to be one of the hundreds of thousands of customers who will never notice the difference... My recommendation would be to get a new one ONLY if you are getting problems though... if it aint broke, don't fix it!

That's kinda what I've been thinking too. I haven't been too impressed with this system, especially the mobo and BIOS - practically no alternate configuration settings..really pisses me off after learning my old BioStar M7VKB inside and out.. The BIOS says that the case/system fans don't get over 3000 or so RPM! I've been thinking about buying some new fans.. I don't have many PCI slots in use (modem only), and my Radeon uses the AGP slot (onboard NIC and sound, too). Would I notice any improvements with, say, a 400W PSU?

Does one have to buy a UATX power supply for a UATX motherboard, or would an ATX PSU work?

I really don't know the difference, since I haven't really ever heard of UATX - does it look the same as other standard-ATX PSU's you have seen?

Hmm..not sure if the UATX connector looks any different than that of an ATX form factor.. I don't really feel like unhooking everything to break into the case right now either. I was kinda hoping someone would have a little more info on the UATX form factor for me as I haven't found much via Google. I was also curious if a better PSU would give me any better performance at all.. Any help?

A better PSU will only aid overclocking and stability - and given that its an HP, I think that you aren't going to be overclocking I really don't think a new PSU would really do anything for you unless you are getting random spontaneous hot reboots or anything...

Imagine the irony..here's a little tidbit of info about the UATX form factor from HP's website: ..to take advantage of the uATX form factor for lower overall system cost. !! Swindlers!

UATX, or uATX I have found, is just a smaller sized form factor. It's smaller than AT and even Baby-AT. I've found that it's the same as Micro-ATX..

Ya, thats what I was going to say - uATX sounds like a mispelling of µATX, while UATX does not... µATX is a different name for MicroATX, and is a very small sized form factor PSU, the same kind they use in those nifty little Shuttle PC's... I don't think that electrically they are any different though...
