1394 & enclosure box issue
I friend gave me her external to check, which includes a 40Gb IDE Seagate. She told me that there is a proble w/the enclosure box(a combo one w/USB+1394). She tried to test the hard disk straight to the IDE bus of her PC but it was not readable. I have to test if the box is faulty or the physical drive.
Q: is there any possibility that the external drive uses some other way to format or diferent fs(FAT_NTFS)??? I havent'done anything yet because of lack of time. Just asking before starting to disassembilg and I 'm gonna test in mine box but other brand.

2) As soon as you plugin, and turn on the external drive Windows XP will detect it. If it's not formated it will ask you to do so, and you can format it just as you would if you had added it normally. The best way to do so is through "Disk Management". To access this go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management. On the the left side expand "Storage", and click on "Disk Management". The external drive should be showing up as an unformated disk. On the right side right-click the drive, and make the partition as you see fit. *Word of warning: do not format it as a Dynamic Disk.* |
