how to recover my data?

Ok so when i was installing windows x64 xp i accidently selected the wrong harddrive in the menu where you select where you want to install windows or partition. I hit D on my 160gb (that contains all my backuped files) then i hit L which finalized to delete the partition. i realized what i have done, i just made that drive an unpartitioned space.

my question is can i recover my data on that harddrive? It didnt format the drive it just deleted the partition which happened in less than 5seconds. I dont think it can wipe out all the data within that period of time can it?

i reconnected my harddrive to the power and started x64 xp but the OS is not finding my 160gb hdd.

how can i solve my problem? is there any software out there that can recover my data. also how can i make windows display my 160 in 'my computer' because right now it is not displaying it.

-thanks

k ill try that if 'recover my files' works correctly. so far its been searchin for over 22hours :|.

does it normaly take this long for about 160gb?
also will all my files, such as mp3s, still have the correct file names? recover my files is displaying the current found file names sorta werid.

can't tell you what program to use, but from what you've described the data will still all be there.
windows only allocates 'deleted' files as available space. So until something fills that space, the files stay intact.

so long as you find an appropriate program, you should be able to rescue your files.

if it allocates the files to be deleted does that mean it changes the name of all the files or will my file names still be intact?

did that program keep your file names intact?
'recover my files' just finished after almsot 49hours searching and it looks like it found alot of files but all the file names are renamed to something like "Recovered_Avi_138". It would take so long to go through all the files renaming them all.

Is there any Recovery program that keeps the file names intact?

its saving all my files into one file also for some reason. all my mpegs are being saved into one file, it started at only a few MBs but now its close to 50GBs in size..
