GlobespanVirata, Inc. (NASDAQ: GSPN), today announced that it has begun sampling its highly integrated Argon III Plus(TM) Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) chip set with G.Span(TM) extended rate and reach technology, the highest speed ADSL CPE solution available on the market today.

Offering rates starting at 16 Mbps with 30% greater reach over existing high-speed ADSL solutions, Argon III Plus allows service providers to increase their revenues by offering premium services that meet the growing demand for high-speed broadband while increasing their market and consumer coverage by reaching more end-users. Moreover, Argon III Plus offers a highly integrated Analog Front End (AFE), which lowers Bill of Material (BOM) costs. Argon III Plus with G.Span also addresses all existing worldwide standards and is fully upgradeable to the new International Telecommunications Unions (ITU) ADSL2 and ADSL+ standards, enabling service providers to address future market demands.

Integrating the industry's leading communications processor utilizing GlobespanVirata's Integrated Software on Silicon (ISOS) solution, Argon III Plus enables equipment manufacturers to address a wide range of applications including mid-to-high-end routers, bridges and gateways. Worldwide Functionality

Argon III Plus supports global ADSL deployments from a single design that meets the requirements of Annexes A, B, and C. Argon III Plus is also fully compliant and interoperable with industry standards T1.413 i2, G.992.1 (G.dmt), and G.992.2 (G.lite) for Asymmetric DSL deployments and is upgradeable to the new ITU ADSL2 and ADSL+ standards.

System Cost Reduction

Argon III Plus achieves significant system cost savings by integrating key system components. The highly integrated Argon III Plus Analog Front End device integrates line driver and filters into a single turnkey CPE solution and also requires one less power supply, further contributing to the overall cost savings.

Flexible Interface

Argon III Plus includes a 16-bit-wide, parallel expansion bus that can be used to provide a glueless interface to PCMCIA 802.11b wireless system or Voice Over IP (VoIP) solutions.
