simoncpage is on a distinguished road

Sad Dell 8300 IDE to Sata

I currently am updating my machine - new PSU, graphics card and now new hard disk.

I have bought 2 of these:

Western Digital Raptor 74GB WD740GD 10,000RPM SATA 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-015-WD)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...gital_192.html

Bit new to SATA drives although i have already added an SATA drive to my computer already.

What I would like to know is:
1. If I remove the IDE drive and the SATA drive I currently have in there and replace it with the 2 new SATA drives how do I tell it which one is the master and which is the slave (as I believe the jumpers don't apply to SATA).

2. How would I be able to have 3 SATA drives in my machine without replacing the mother board?

3. Is there a way to leave my IDE in there and be able to use it as another slave non boot drive and not have to format?

Any help would be great thanks

Q1: your mobo should be marked with "SATA 1", "SATA 2" etc... connections

Q2: only if your mobo has more than 2 SATA connectors on it

Q3: sure, set as slave and just plug it into the ide as you normally would.

hope that helps

Q2: if the motherboard has only 2 Serial ATA Connectors on it, you can simply add a PCI to SATA host adapter card to an empty PCI slot.
