Best install partition layout!

Well got to re-install everything very soon, and wanna try something a little different.

I got two HD's both 40giggers. My main OS is WinXP Pro but i also use Mandrake linux. I was thinking of creating partitions for my music and games separate from the main OS. I also use Norton Ghost 2003.

I prefer to use XP on a NTFS file system, so what would be the best layout for all the partitions and on which drives.?

Would i have to install XP on C: and then partition that drive for say the music and games partitions ? and then install Linux on the second HD. Then create another partition on the second drive for Norton Ghost.?

Or is there a better way?

thanks

I have two OS on my 'puter, Win98se & WinXP. I have each OS on it's own drive, with 1 partition for my games, 1 very large one for music & mulitmedia files, 1 for everything other then listed above and lastly 1 more for ghost images. Each OS partition is just enough for the OS and some room to grow with updates with Win98se being the smallest and most compact. Each drive has it's own dedicated partitions for everything noted above except music and multimedia and ghost images, which are all on one drive and is shared with both os's. I find this layout works very well and allows me quickly restore the system in case of problems without losing info I need. Of course this works well for me and your own mileage may vary.

Thanks Frodo,

Sounds something like i want to set up. My difference is Linux, as that generally installs on an extended partition. If i recall. Will install XP on C: with two further partitions for games and music and on the 2nd HD, Linux with one further partition for Norton Ghost.

That should do it i hope. Again thanks
