How much does L2 cache really matter?

more L2 cache results in a noticeable price hike, but in real world usage does it reall make that big of a difference? For instance take the X2 4200+ vs the X2 4400+. Same clock speed, only difference is 1mb L2 cache vs 512kb L2 cache (per core). However this results in a full $100 price difference... is an extra meg of L2 really worth $100?

For:
-Gaming
-Photoshop
-Vid editing

Will any of these tasks show a significant improvement with the xtra L2 @ the same clockspeed on the same core?
