Well, the specs don't say jack about the processor except what I posted, but the Bartons were supposed to have a 3000+ in the line

:coughoptertoncough: Though it is a bit worrying, since I was looking at Opterons instead of an Athlon64 because they have the 3xmemory bandwidth... but if they are willing to drive their high end desktop CPU's to this level, I think Opterons are going to be most definitely out of my reach...

EDIT: schpeleng...

Yes they did dd more L2 cache. The Barton now has MORE total cache than any current P4`s. By a long margin. 640k for the Barton compared to the 528k (I think) of the P4. Thats why the higher PR rating for the barton compared to the T-Breds. The extra cache make`s the difference. AREA_51

Still I don't think that it is worth of buying when you can get TWO (and still save some money) T-Breds for one Barton... Technology is still 0.13 tech, right?

P.S.
This explains why they stopped producing 2800+. It would be running at higher speed than Barton, and so... seems logical.

Yes I agree it is not worth it at the moment. But prices will come down ith time. But at the moment I wholeheartedly agree with you.

To me, it seems to be not worth it . . . maybe ever.
The only difference between the Bart and the Thor-B is the 256k of more cache. And the benchmarks I've seen show the extra cache usually doesn't do a whole lot . . . maybe to the point of AMD overestimating the model number of the 3000+ . . . .

Figuring that in with the premium you'd be paying over the Thor-B, and it just seems like money wasted to me.
To anyone considering upgrading to the Bart from a Thor-A or -B, I'd suggest waiting for Athlon64.
If upgrading from Palo or something real old, I'd suggest the Thor-B if you'd rather not wait for Athlon64.

Looks like a pattern with recent AMD chips, at least in my personal opinion. Seems to me that the core to buy would be every-other one they've come out with.
Specifically: Athlon64, not Barton, Thoroughbred-B, not Thoroughbred-A, Palomino.
. . . dunno maybe it's just me
