Curious results
I got Norton System Works Pro oem for a great price (34.95$). Installed the apps I wanted then benchmarked with pcmark and the new app that came with Nortons. Performance test v4.0. Got very good results in performance test all but 1 test I was equal to or better than the standard xp2600 benchmark. Then I defragged using speed disk(was defragged with windows app) and re-benched to my suprize my hd scores dropped. Comparing the 2 files 4 hd tests& 1 mem test (?wtf) were lowered;
1 Random Access (96k) from 5406.1 to 4895.1 Puzzled why this should even be affected? Glitch in test ? HD Tests 1 Cached File write from 28.8 to 26.9 2 Uncached file write from 38.3 to 33.2 3 Cached file read from 37.3 to 36.2 4 Uncached file read from 43.9 to 42.8 5 File copy from 13.0 to 13.3 Re-ran tests same results I know most of the variances are just that no big deal. Perhaps the Random Access (mem bench) is lowered due to the additional apps being installed? The Uncached file write test is the only one showing a significant drop. I did run msconfig and turned off speed disk, ghost, Index servicing and system restore. First test I had everything enabled strange enough having those enabled made no real difference in all benches except the 2 noted above. I'm just wondering if anyone else tha runs Nortons has noticed similar results ?
