i have gone through 2 units of their lga 775 vers & their tech support finally gave up & said it cant handle the heat.
my 940 goes to 6oc + within 30 secs fo bootup. so any body looking at one of these for any cpu that runs hot, dont.

"940 goes to 60c + within 30 secs fo bootup"
that must be something wrong with the CPU cooler setups, or it's simply not efficient enough to be used with the CPU. stock heatsink and fan won't go that high that fast. |

it isnt deisgned to handle the loads of high heat cpus. would havew been nice if coolermaster would have let people know BEFORE buying it. i think it would do fine with anything under 90w but there is no way it could handle a cpu & something ekse.
what really sucks is that performance pc wont take it back because it is used. i guess i can understand with something like a h2o unit, but still,,,

yeah, those aren't very good units at all. if you want water you should go custom... it's really the only way to go

that's a good thing you aren't planning on using the chipset or gpu blocks!!!! it only has a single 120mm rad! w/ your cpu you should really go for a double.
If I were you I'd email frozencpu and tell them your system and say that you just had the thought that it might not be able to keep your cpu cool enough either... ask them to suggest a different setup. the tt big water 745 would probably even be better because it can discipate more heat if you want to go custom you can get much better temps for the same price. and if your cpu operates within specs you prob did just waste $20. why exactly did you send it in?

because it was idling between 58 - 60c & hitting 70c after 5-10 mins of guild wars. rebooted about the same amount of time in doom3.
i also ordered swiftechs nifty 'radbox'. so the radiator will be mounted on the outside of the case. if that isnt enough, f... it.

If you want a kit, I'd say Asetek has some kits that performs on par with many custom builds....

well I don't think they'll give you a new cpu... yeah radboxes are nice. I actually mounted a dual heater core on one on the back of an X-Navigator case ![]() I really do think that you're going to want a double rad w/ that cpu... it doesn't matter if Asetek makes good kits or not, a single rad just can't discipate enough heat to get you really great temps. You'll have to put a monster of a fan on it!

I went and bout a new P 940 (rev B1) and the Aquagate Mini 120 today after reading a few great reviews. I checked the back of the box to see if it supported Pentium Ds. The only thing refering to D was for Celerons. Initially i installed the CPU with the stock HSF and the CPU temp was around 32degrees C. Next i installed the Aquagate 120 and i was amazed.. At bootup and idle in the bioshardware monitor screen, my cpu temp was 10degrees C ... Thats with the fan speed (fan on the radiator) set to the lowest setting. And currently while booted into windows XP and simi-idle the temp is only 14Degrees C.. With your issue, there could be an issue with you CPU, it could be fualty? Iv had a mate who bought a Pentium 4 CPU and the lowest temp that it got to was 45 degree (idle) with a stock HSF... Reason i went with the Aquagate was that i didnt want to spend allot and i wanted a all in one beginners setup PLUS all reviews i read were good. My basic setup is: M/B: Asus P5N32-SLI-Deluxe (Nforce4 chipset)(rev A3) CPU: Intel 940 (rev B1) Ram: OCZ 1Gig DDR2 video: Saphire X800GT 256M (PCI-E) Hdd: 2x200 Seagate Sata, 2x36Gig Seagate U160 SCSI. Case: Coolermaster Stacker (full tower) PSU: Antec NeoHe 550W |

And its cheap at $130 and everything is pretty much in one package(reservoir, pump, radiator etc..) |

To test that i had the correct reading. I installed speedfan and Asus Ai Boost. Both had the same readings for the CPU Temp and the motherboard temp at about 38C. I also did another initial test where I shut down the PC, powered it up with JUST the CPU (no HSF or aquagate), and bam after about 5secs the PC auto shut down (this shows that the sensors on the MB are working). What I am really trying to say is.. I find it hard to think that the fualt is from the aquagate cooler. It looks more to be the CPU since the system has been tested on normal P4 and Celeron D CPU are they all have nice cool readings. I dont think there is a huge difference in temps for the P4 and P D... or is there? |

I wasn't saying there was fault to the cooler... I'm saying there is no way your cpu temp is colder than it is outside when it's winter out! your mobo is reporting incorrect temps

I guarantee it's reporting incorrectly. get a hardware temp monitor and see what it says

Blitzz is right, unless your using subzero cooling (liquid nitrogen, etc) your cpu temp will always be at LEAST ambient case temp + 5-10 degrees while idle.

for reference the p4 630 is rated at about 80w while the p4 940 is rated at about 125w.
the coolermaster aquagate by coolermaster own admission( after i had already purchased it) cant handle my cpu or anything over the 80-90w range. i also believe my cpu was running to hot & have a new one from intel getting here tomorrow. hopefully it is a 'c' stepping

Yes, will be interesting when you get the new P 940
![]() What i did notice is.. on the aquagate mini box, the only Dualcore CPU they show has being compatible with is the Celeron. But then again, it works fine for my 940 (rev B1). You also might want to update yout BIOS. I nearly shit my pants when i first put the 940 in, it booted, but no video. So quickly put the 830 back in, went to the asus webpage and bingo! I said i needed the latest BIOS for the MB to read teh 940 properly .. good luck Last edited by Blitzz; Jun 22, 2006 at 09:38 AM. |
