LOTS Of Problems! (Fixed)
Right, i've built a new pc:
AMD 64 4000+ San Diego 2x XFX 6600 GT's 1 Gb Generic DDR400 RAM Asus A8N SLi Premium 580 W Hiper PSU [fixed]But it has alot of problems i need help with, the first being whenever i enable SLi it decides to reboot after a few mins (altho after giving the beta drivers a chance it just locks up and the sound it repeated over and over again), it also makes ~0.5 sec beeping noises when i turn it on in the morning sometimes, and after beeping 3 times it then turns off, then if i turn it on again it works fine, which makes no sense, and now it has decided that when it goes into the Windows it will make the monitor (Ilyama E431S) say "No Signal Input" for a minute and then the cursor appears and windows loads. The last thing (this isnt really a problem) is that sinse using the beta drivers the nView in the context menu has gone, and i have just set two monitors up (well if i cant use SLi i might as well use them!) and i have to Restore>Drag Across>Maximize for each program, instead of doing all the fancy stuff i could with nView Heres a really off topic one, in WMP11 ive managed to hide the now playing bar, what can i do to get it back?[/fixed] Now im just looking for upgrade and overclocking advice!

3 beeps on startup usually refers to memory problems so you may want to start by having the ram tested

...just bummin 'round

for less expensive RAM you'd prolly be best getting a "value" line from some names like Corsair, Kingston or OCZ, rather than just some run-of-the-mill stuff.

It will normally run until you stop it. To get a good test, it should be left to run for several hours. If you've been running it already, has it shown any errors so far? I'm not familiar with SLI setups, so, no suggestions in that area.

If so then Find the "Now Playing" button (along the top of the program) and there should be a little arrow underneath it. Click it and it should bring up a menu. To bring the "now playing" bar click on show list pane. The bar should have reappeared now

anyway on the other 2 probs you have (SLI turning off after 3 mins and monitor saying no signal input) the SLI prob are you sure that both cards are connected and seated? also are you sure that a. your mobo has any SLI function set correctly (in the BIOS settings) b. you need to download a BIOS flash to correct this problem in your mobo (NOT RECOMMENDED but if that is the problem than for SLI to work you may need to do it) c. try reinstalling the non-beta nVida drivers (also make sure the drivers are uninstalled before installing them and use Driver Cleaner as well)

go into the bios setup and try disabling the PEG mode. It made my mobo unstable and to be honest i don't think it makes that much of a difference in performance. It could be set to the faster option which can cause instability
Edit : just had a look in my manual and you can't disable it so just leave all 3 settings on auto Last edited by Richie-b; Jul 23, 2006 at 04:15 PM. |

it's not the vid cards causing the problem if there both running in single mode. Set the sli config to dual video card, set peg to auto and also disable that overclock option, once you get the rig stable, then you can start overclocking.
also sli will only run on one monitor(see post 4). |

been up for ~45 mins on LFS, cpu at 90%, gfx card at 73 degrees, running fine in SLi with 4 A and 8 AF, might overclock the graphics card once they are up for an hour, although i still wanna ditch em and get a 6800 or 7600, but i can live!
EDIT - all ive done is disable PEG link, thank you!!!!! have 20 cookies!
