Sad My computers will become old in less than 10 hours.

Yup, and I'm a bit bummed. Normally it happens gradually and I don't notice it, but due to weirdness I can see this one coming and even have annoying countdown clocks to it all over the place.

When 3dm2k3 comes out, all me rigs will become officially "out-of-date"....I have no DX9 card so I won't be able to run the full test.

No big deal, no game uses it; it's just a benchmark....but I can still remember my excitement when I got me GF3 and was FINALLY able to see the "Nature" test, it was a big deal to me! I remember thinking, "Finally, I gots me a rig that can GAME!"

And that happy feeling ends today as soon as 3dm2k3 comes out, and I'm a bit bummed.

I was trying to figure out why I wasn't looking forward to 3dm2k3, now I know why and I thought I would share. "Joy shared is joy doubled, pain shared is pain halved." and all that.

So I'm now counting down the minutes 'til me rigs get officially old. Yeay.

I have a good news for you.
You wont have to count for the next 10 hours, instead it'll be 30 minutes or so from now.

Rayder is just super!Rayder is just super!Rayder is just super!Rayder is just super!Rayder is just super!Rayder is just super!Rayder is just super!

Still, it will be interesting to see what kind of pretty stuff they'll come up with for this new benchie. Even if I can't see ALL of the tests.

You know, for the PC techies, this program alone is probably the main reasons that many of us upgrade our video cards. I may upgrade mine one day, but I still never got that "infinite cash" wallet yet.

Looks like it will be available by 1pm EST!

Not death to the comps, but maybe death to DX9. The scores are showing the complexity & poor coding inherent to DX, IMO. This may be more of a shot in the foot to DX then a reason to upgrade > especially w/the economy the way it is.

There is a lot of pissed off Ti4xxx owners @ FM riight now & the majority of consumers won't upgrade if OGL games run fine. I personally think this will put a LOT of pressure (from game developers & consumers) on M$ to 'fix' DX9. Iif ppl can't afford to upgrade to run DX9 games, developers will lose $$ or switch to OGL. Plain & simple, IMO.

I realize what Carmack has said about the 9700Pro & GFFX running Doom3, but his work is the exception. 3DM03 is the DX9 exception too & the graphic card companies will improve drivers for it > but only so far. nVidia is trying to help developers w/Cg, but sales will dictate API & if DX continues to require massive hardware updates > consumers will avoid it.

Just my thoughts on it & sorry I reminded you Dig > I didn't consider the relationship to Nature & your lack of DX9. I too was soo happy when I finally saw Nature in Dec. 2002. I took my 3DM2K1 score from ~2500 to 11.7k in the last 2 months & now I'll be back to ~2500 in 3DM03 > but as you say: It is just a benchmark & has no 'real world' reference yet. It will prolly be some time before it does too.

Take it EZ & if I stumble across another DX9 card 'deal' > you are 1st on the list!

Me too still.

I finally found an opening in a server, but it's gonna take 'til the morrow 'til the download is finished for me. There's no real advantage to fatty bandwidth when their server can only kick me so much. If nothing else it's looking like this 3dm2k3 hula-baloo that's going on MIGHT just get me to change me opinion...I was sort of assuming this bench the credulance of it's predecessor a bit too early mayhaps....

Digi, I have a 3DMark03 mirror that I'm giving the link to to 56kers, so if you end up needing a new place to download from or some other 56kers need somewhere to d/l, tell them to talk to me

Nature test?

I've seen it, on my Radeon 7200. There was a little proggy that allowed me to do that - imagine my disappointment when I saw images familiar from the demo.

I don't remember where I got it from, but maybe I still have it at home.

3DMark makes every computer "obsolete." Even R9.7Ks sputter on those tests.

My computer gets 184 3DMarks in '03, yet my computer isn't close to being obsolete - there still isn't a game out there (aside from Aquanox) that I can't run perfectly well - so what if my score is about 25x lower than those with the very newest video cards? Until I start being severely limited in real programs, unlike 3DMark, then I'll consider my rig obsolete, but until then, I think 3DMark03 is something I'm going to ignore
