i've just been a member here for 2 weeks, and this forum is really helpful.
another noob question here, sorry. my problem is, vista is coming out soon and i'm going to setup my own system. i want a system that can take vista, not an overkill system (not too pricey) but enough to handle vista. any advice on motherboard, processor, memory, graphics card, etc.... will be welcome. thanks in advance.

intel 805 dual core CPU on socket 775
a supporting mother board with dual channel and two sticks of DDr2 would be a bugest system that should cut it... but it depends on your funds

You could use the rig im currently building for ideas. Its going to cost me about $550 Shipped maybe $60 more if I have to replace the PSU (Im using the one that came with my case)

The thing is it really is a little early to build a system for vista as it will probably be changing a lot over beta 2 (ive the new build and its much better than beta 2 - thankfully).
Anyway vista is going to want a lot of memory, so you should budget 2 gigs of ram minimum before you look at anything else, you dont need to go nuts and spend a fortune, any mid level card and cpu right now will run it well although by the time it hits the shelves and has DX10 games ready there will be a whole new range of graphics cards and processors so jumping in right now to build a system JUST for vista isnt really a good idea. Personally I would hang fire for at least 2-3 months, then start compiling a list. |

Personally, I won't do any major upgrading until DX10 cards are out. |

thanks for all the comments guys. . i have0 the budget of probably around £1500-£1700
but i think i have to take first the advice of zardon, which is probably the best. don't want spending lots of money then have to bang my head later co'z of wrong decision.
