Worrying Fan Noises
i'm beginning to get worried about one of the system fans in my pc. i have 3 fans 2 system fans with blue & red leds inside and 1 cpu fan.
Before the problem began i would turn on my pc and there would just be a quiet hum coming from my pc. Now when i turn it on one of my system fans makes a very loud flapping and banging noise when it starts up and it sound horrendous. the only way to stop the banging it to tap the top of my pc and the noise reduces but it still sounds harsher then it normally does. Also ATT has dected a rise in my temperatures especially my cpu temperature (the system fan causing the problems is situated very close to the cpu) but it seems weird as the fan is still visibly spinning as fast as my other system fan. Has anyone got any ideas. Do you think i should replace the fan or could it be weather related (it been very very hot here and the problem started when the hot weather arrived, but could that just be a lucky coinsidence?) Cheers Cube623

What does it exactly sound like...sort of like a dentist drill or a tatoo needle? I've had both sounds in fans (and had both of those experiences
).If its a sleeve bearing fan you're likely running into a dried out bearing. Theres a little lubricant in those things to prevent that grindy noise. It could be that the hot weather made it spin faster (is it a temp. sense fan or hooked to some temp. sensing rheostat?) and then it just manifested itself. I've seen this happen to old Dells. This won't happen to ball bearing fans (which go forever it seems). The solution would be, if you don't want to buy a new fan, to peel back the sticker and put in some very light machine oil. Yes yes it MAY slow the fan down a little and alot of people berate this practice saying that it isn't good for the fans... but in my personal experience it has made several "dead" fans useful again and only made a very minor slow down in RPM monitoring (i.e. 6000RPM instead of 6120RPM). |
