Crash to Blue Screen

I get sometimes crashes to a blue screen with the message:
Windows encoutered a serious problem and shut down to prevent any further damage.
BAD_POOL_CALLER
***STOP: 0x000000c2 (0x00000007, 0x00000cd4, 0x00000000, 0x82fff008)
does anyone know what might cause this?

Most likely one (or both) of your ram sticks are going bad, download memtest86
http://www.memtest86.com , I believe youll have to put the files on a disk and reboot your pc. If you get errors try one stick at a time to see if just one or both are bad.

how long am i supposed to let memtest run? till its finished (is it ever finished?)
i let it run for a little longer then an hour, it gave passed: 3. and no errors.
should i let it run longer? or is my memory not the problem... could there be other things that might cause this?

Memtest will run until you stop it.

It should be left to run for several hours....or until you start seeing errors if there are any. The memory needs to heat up so that it gets stressed enough like it would in your game environments.

ah ok... but wouldnt my system crash during games?
because it doesnt. I start to think it has something to do with azureus. It always crashes when i leave my computer on and let it download...
but i cant see the connection between that program and the crashes...

OK.

Go into the Event Viewer and check for errors/warnings.

Right click on My Computer icon, then select Manage.

You'll see Event Viewer. Expand that and then open Applications and then System. Look for incidents around the time of the crash. Then read whatever information is provided.

ok... system crasht again.
just now. i restarted pc and checked the event viewer. i got several errors...

seems all the crashes have to do with the error of WinMgmt and securtycenter. when looking at the properties this is what is says at

WinMgmt:
Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceOperationEvent WHERE TargetInstance ISA 'AntiVirusProduct' OR TargetInstance ISA 'FirewallProduct'" could not be (re)activated in namespace "//./ROOT/SecurityCenter" because of error 0x80041010. Events may not be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

and at SecurityCenter:
The Windows Security Center Service was unable to load instances of FirewallProduct from WMI.

the new error i got just now was: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

another thing.
while playing the game pharaoh i got:
The instruction at "ox7c9122ba" referenced memory at "ox8cf13d55". The memory could not be "read".

what does that mean?

EDIT:
nvm, i checked google with the error message. there are 2 things concluded. overheated cpu or bad ram. and like was mentioned with the BAD_POOL_CALLER that will be the case..
ah well... could happen with ram of like 4 years old?

has anybody got a recommendation of some good ram?
i got 2 sticks of 512 of corsair value-select (never thought there would be much difference between these cheap and the expensive ones)
if i get rid of 1 i should get rid of the 2nd as well right..
i will get 2 whole new ones.. (damn, is gonna cost me a fair bit again)

correct me if it isnt the ram!!

something else. My sister started the computer and she said this message came:
Your CPU fan fail or speed too low.
When i checked it, my cpu wasnt hot (40C) and the fan was blowing at 1500rpm
altough i find that rather low, it should give a message if it was blowing at or under 800rpm.

is 1500 rpm a normal speed?

the fan speeds seems pretty low as my system fans run at 3000rpm and CPU fans should be running faster as CPU's can get v.hot

You have stock fan or something else ? Is there dust on the fan ? You should clean it quite often especially if ur computer is on the floor

this is what AI booster tells me...

which is telling me how fast cpu fan is blowing, and how can i increase this?
could you answer the questions about the memory too? cos that is my first priority.. it crashes everytime now..
my sister played pharoah (doesnt really matter.. ) but it crashed thrice. with the message about memory couldnt be written or read.
so i guess it is really just bad memory?

and it is the stock fan on the cpu. no dust though.... dont really know whats the problem.
I restarted the computer again, but this time the message didnt show up. checked the bios and its running at ~1700rpm...

OK, a few things you need to check:

First, check that the CPU is properly setup and not being overclocked. Sometimes the BIOS will do its own thing and reset the CPU to something other than what it's supposed to be. So, make sure the FSB is set correctly, the proper CPU is identified, etc....

Second, while in the BIOS, check that the RAM timings are set correctly. Again, no overclocking and ease up the CAS settings to Standard or similar. For now you want to eliminate any undo stress.

Third, if you have more than one stick of RAM, eliminate (for now) all but one. If everything works well, turn off the system, set that good one aside and put another in. Start up and try it again. As long as the system works well, continue swapping out RAM sticks until you've tried them all. If any of them are bad, you'll find out which one this way.

For comparison's sake, here's what my own ABIT EQ shows as of this post:

NOTE: CPU Fan speed is ~3500; NB fan speed ~4800.

Fourth, change the cooling fan on the CPU. It could very well be that the motor is simply dying. It does happen all to frequently.

Good luck!

thx dyre..
i know what the low rpm was now. at startup my cpu temperature was 29C. i had Q-fan enabled, so this means the cpu fan is adjusting its speed to the temperature of the cpu. When the cpu reaches 51 degrees, it would blow full speed, anything below will reduce this. thus at 29C it was blowing below 800rpm and i got the error message.
I disabled Q-fan now, and its back at blowing at ~3300 rpm.

the ram timings are written on the sticks itself, is that right?
and i will be certainly be checking my rams that way...

I bet if you turn all that crap off everything will be fine. I always turn off all that auto fan and OC management software (never install it, turn it off in BIOS) and all the windows security is totally turned off.

I have the same mobo by the looks of it. You would be much better off running fan at full speed especially in the summer. Try turning Q-fan off, uninstalling AI booster, etc..

That explains the slow fan speeds, yes.

Don't count on the CAS settings being written on the RAM sticks themselves. Maybe, if they are very, very new. But, some older sticks will likely not have that information. What you may have to do is check the model/brand against what's listed on the WEBSite for that memory.

What WILL, most likely be written on the RAM is whether it's PC2700, PC3200, etc. There are still some older systems around using PC100 and PC133. So, whatever the RAM is, that info should be on the stick.

allright.. if one of the sticks is bad, ill be replacing it by a new one. most likely a 2gig dual-channel set. what would be a good choice? I was looking at the reviews here and saw the Mushkin. I liked what it said, but are they really that good? or what sticks would any of you reccomend, which are not too expensive ofcourse
(have now 2x512 of value-select, not a dual-channel set)

I don't know about prices offhand to compare to Mushkin, but, if you want really good RAM I'd go with Corsair or, per several members here, OCZ. See how those prices compare.

Fry's has good deals weekly on RAM.

i checked the site and these catched my eye:
Corsair 400MHz 2-128x64 XMS Dual-Channel DDR 184-Pin, Model #TWINX2048-3200PT -> (200 MHz at 3-4-4-8)
and
OCZ 2GB PC3200 (400MHz) DDR Dual Channel (2x1gb) CL 2-3-2-5, 184-Pin, OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K

both come with a lifetime warranty.
Which one is better? as far as i know, the lower latencies the better, so i think i should go with the one from OCZ?

nother thing btw, i took out one stick of 512mb (my pc is slow now ) but it hasnt crashed since, ran memtest86 for 2 hours, no errors, played some games and listened to music for 4 hours and had nothing...
so ill be replacing the stick with the other and do the same... lets see if its the ram thats bad..
if it doesnt crash with the other.. then i dont know what to do..
maybe then it was my processor.. it could be the low rpm the cpufan was making.. that it caused the pc to crash? (overheating)

Per Zardon's post about OCZ (in another thread asking specifically about memory) he's using OCZ and highly recommends it. The lower latency is better, yes. So, if price isn't that much of a consideration, I'd go with the lower latency brand.

Make sure you get the ones with the heat dispersion cover, too.

Another trick is knowing which chips the modules use.. and how those modules behave in general, and if they are what you want for your system. That's something I need to research soon. I remember back in the day it was BH6 and 5 IC's.. etc..

A lot of the time that made more difference than what the packaging and rating said. It gets tricky though, seems be the time you read a review, they change what chips they are using, etc.. or how the chips behave "now" as opposed to a couple months ago. That's half the reason I'm still using these idiotic 3 sticks of ram, LOL.

the ones i saw were 170 each...

but i've got a question about those crashes. Could it be crashing for safety? because my fan was spinning at such a low rate, it overheated and shut down. the reason for asking is i havent had any crash since i disabled Q-fan. so it spins at 3300rpm all the time now..

Yeah it might be.. I remember experimenting with that stuff briefly when setting up my system and it was messed up- the fan would get so slow that it would set off warnings and whatnot.

It looks like it wasn't giving your CPU enough voltage either.. that's me bet why it was crashing.

I think you could get a lot better performance and reliability by just setting it all up in the BIOS and keeping a constant voltage and OC for the CPU.. and uninstalling all cool and quiet stuff and AI booster and everything. Unless of course you really want to use that stuff. I find it unreliable.

yea... was thinking just about the same thing. Uninstalling all that, just keeping Asus-update (easy bios-updater).
since i disabled the Q-fan i didnt get any errors or crashing or anything.
Was thinking about overclocking my processor too, I read somewhere that the x2 3800+ was really good overclockable.. but im not sure on how-to and what-not, that kinda stuff.. I've found a guide on internet though: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1804

When i do it like they say there, is that a good way?
