Intel P4 Temperature
what is considered too high of a temperature for a P4 2Ghz processor? my cpu runs i would say 46 degrees C when sitting idle, but after it is turned on for a while after playing games and what not it sits around 50-52 degrees C. it does cool back down after playing games but not for a while. would you say these are normal temps for this cpu. i built my little brother a machine using a P4 1.8Ghz and it sits around 40-42 degrees C. i went out and bought a cpu fan from compusa (the 20 dollar one) which i heard through the forums was pretty good at keeping cpus cooler, but it seems to hang around the same temp as the fan that came with the processor. i was thinking that my computer was over heating during games due to some lock ups so that was what i thought would be a solution.

temp inside stays around 32-38 inside...usually it's about 10 degrees C cooler than the cpu is. i have a front fan pulling air in, slot fan below my brand new radeon 9500 pro card, back fan drawing air out, and a dual fanned power supply pulling out. i can put a fan on the one side of my case that is right in front of my cpu to either draw more air out or bring it in. haven't decided on that one yet.

My Temps for a 2.04 GHz
Here are my temps and I overclocked my P4 1.7 GHz. Approximately 32 C (Idle or Busy) for MotherBoard and 38.5 C for CPU(Idle). 60 C for CPU when Stressed hard after 3D Mark2001SE has been run 5 times. 53 C after gaming session (Return to Castle Wolfenstein). By the way I'm using stock cooling and open side panel with 1 case fan as exhaust. 1 blowing upwards from the front-bottom of the case.

cool so i'm about right with the cooling and heat thing then it looks...usually i'm not too concerned with my systems as i've been doing this for quite a while, but thought i was having heating issues with some games i play due to lock ups with two different video cards. maybe bad drivers or something...the omega ati drivers for the cats 3.1 seem to work wonderfully with my 9500pro card....my nvidia card on the other hand works better for certain games, but i bought the ati thinking that would fix some issues i was having with i guess i'm not.
haha....i guess i just put more stress on my computer than most. work it till it breaks thanks for the response!
