Memory Latency
could someone please explain the memory latency thing? ive found some nice ram with a latency of 5-5-5-12, and dont know if thats "good" or not. (its OCZ Gold DDR2-800, 2GB for my conroe SLI system) and if you know any better ram, id like to hear about it.

thats a higer latecy wich is cheaper, the higher the mhz the more bandwith, things
like gameing prefer lower latency wich if far more expensive. Though a very low latency ddr2 667 should be better then high latecy ddr2 800 for gameing. If you looking for better be prepared to open your wallet much wider...

The lower the latency, the better....and the higher the price. Also, you didn't ask, but, I'd stay away from Kingston and go with Corsair or OCZ. They are both highly recommended among the members here. |

i found some Mushkin HP, 2GB Duel Channel DDR2-533 3-3-3-9 for $210 CAD. does the lower latency make this better then the other kind i found? even though this has like half the speed?

800 would beat 533. BUT, make sure that the manufacturer is giving you actual speeds. Example: Some state 800 when they mean, 400 x 2 = 800. Using that, 533 x 2 = 1066. So, make sure you're getting the correct speed stated. |

You realize he's talking DDR2 and for DDR2-800 AND 2GB those are some pretty low latencies.
I think the Platinum series from OCZ will have the lowest latencies by stock and usually they're the most overclockable |
