Acer 17" AL1706 LCD Monitor

Just picked one up for REALLY cheap, So cheap I didnt even bother reading up on em heh. I was going to run dual screen along side my 17" Samtron flat screen but the color difference batween them is like night and day the lcd is so vivid ( though a bit bright ) and the crt is so eh.

I do like the space of having two monitors so i think ill continue using em anyway anyone else have one of these ultra budget lcds? (Newegg has em for $150US )

hmm the crt looks foggy in comparison now, I have the lcd hooked up straight vga and the crt on the dvi/vga adapter. Could that have something to do with the foggyness or you think its always been there and the lcd comparicon brought it out more?

I'm trying to find the AL1706 Acer 17" but i'm not finding anything on it really.

Acer doesn't have it listed on there website (and if you can find it, send me a link).

All i know is i've got a rather HIGH quality CRT 19" and my AL1951 Acer LCD litterly makes that monitor look like garbage. Mind you i have my AL1951 setup on a DVI connection (it's a TRUE DVI lcd) and if i use a VGA connector, it'll seriously degrade the quality, but still look better.

I stayed away from LCDs for so long, this is actually the first lcd i was in love with.

Course the Dell 30" 3007fpw is omg amazing.

Newer LCD displays grab your eyeballs with their brightness (sometimes overbearing...) and crisp clarity. CRTs age slowly, almost unnoticed, until you put it side by side with a new unit. How old is your CRT?

Swimtech the crt is a few years old not sure on the exact age though. Im sort of used to the lcds brightness now and to my eyes the crt seems to be back to almost normal.

Yeah, that's normal...

I routinely turn down the brightness a notch on my laptop's LCD except when in a well lit room - it's just harsh otherwise, but sometimes you want that capability, especially in games or video...

As a comparison, look around the room you're in and note the contrast and color levels of objects in real life, then look at your computer screen of choice in comparison - the one closest to real life wins in my book...
