exclamation Looking for a driver...

Umm, I just got a InterAct V4 Force Feedback SV-283 Steering Wheel from a friend but it didn't include the driver. Windows won't recognize it and when I set it up manually in the control panel/game controllers dealie it says it's not connected. I tried a driver that I got from the web but it didn't work (maybe cuz it was for win98se). I need a driver for Windows XP that works and don't tell me to go to the manufacturer's website http://www.interact-acc.com because that doesn't work. Yes, I tried driverguide. Yes, I searched the web. I did everything I could think of but still no luck. Whoever finds this driver and it is confirmed working will be declared the official DriverHeaven Driver Master. Well, I hope that motivates u enough. This a [Color=red]REAL challenge.[/color]

So far I have downloaded 4 different drivers.... checking them... 1 of them infected my computer with an I-Worm/Hybris! YAY! Luckily AVG cleaned it with no problems. If I find anything I will let you know.

To install your controller:

-=Click START -> SETTINGS -> CONTROL PANEL.
-=In the Control Panel, double click on the ""GAMING OPTIONS"
-=Once in the Game Controllers window, first make sure that the Controller/Status box is empty. **(If it is not empty, click the “REMOVE” button to clear all its contents)**
-=Click "ADD" and select "2-axis 4-button" and then click "OK"
-=Once the status on the controller reads “OK”, click on the “PROPERTIES” button.
-=Select the "SETTINGS" Tab and then click the "CALIBRATE" button.
-=Follow the on screen instructions to calibrate your joystick.
-=Now, click the "TEST" tab.
-=On the Test screen you can check to make sure that your controller is functioning properly.
-=Now click the "APPLY" button to save your changes and then click "OK" to exit.

I had to go through the google cache, to get this... But that is what Interact says about installing that wheel in 2K/XP!

Interact was never a good company. They did make some fine products... but, it looks like they have finally gone belly up.

I will keep looking for a little while longer. But I doubt if I will find anything.

Silly question but have you tried installing the driver in compatability mode ? Right click on the .exe /properties/compatability tab/and choose win98/me from the options drop down box. I've had very good results with win 2000 apps that way and about 85% with win 98 compatability.

installing a driver in compatibility mode....... not something I would recommend personally certainly not a 9x driver running on NT code.

most windows 2000 drivers should work fine in XP, but as far as I know and have been able to find out, they dont make any NT based drivers for this product.

That's kinda what I did. I did it with a custom setup, tried like 3 different ones. I even gave the 2-axis 4-button a try cuz u mentioned it but in all cases it says "Not Connected". I need a driver and that's that. I just hope they make one, but for now it's back to the closet for this sh¡t. Damn, and i though i could have some real fun with this in my racing games.

Oh, BTW can u give me the link to that website where u got this. I would like to take a look for myself.

Which page did you use. I tried it with www.interact-acc.com like so:
http://216.239.33.100/search?q=cache...eract-acc.com/ but it didn't work.

Code:
http://216.239.57.100/search?q=cache:pfDFvCU5IIACwww.interact-acc.com/dlfiles/sv-262fxpinstallation.htm+&hl=en&ie=UTF-8
try that - you are going to have to copy / paste that into the browser... vB keeps auto parsing the link ... and it is screwing it all up

No wonder!
clearly states: This will only work on the SV-262F Hammerhead controllers. Damn but finding this info was a mission all in itself.
