How much should I underclock a Radeon 9000?

I would like to try and underclock my Radeon 9000 to hopefully fix the constant crashing of my computer. You can check this thread for the actual problem http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthre...threadid=11595 But I was just wondering how much to underclock it but still have it run relativly fast? I'm using Powerstrip btw. Thanks.

EDIT: Powerstrip says my clock is at Engine: 250, Memory: 200

Also according to this link where the card was purchased shouldn't it be at 400 (the memory) instead of 200??? http://www.allstarshop.com/shop/prod...GLC07QRDF4C4V8

Who ever told you to do that someone must of been joking
you sound confused I'll try to help.... 200mhz DDR is 400mhz

Double Data Rate ... It activates output on both the rising and falling edge of the system clock rather than on just the rising edge, doubling output .....

I have never heard of underclocking your card .... (it' not the brightest idea)

locking and freezing is usally coused by overheating heat from the cpu, software (drivers/windows), bad ram, power problems are the most common.
first thing I would look at is the cpu tempature....

make sure you have the latest drivers .... (3.1)

get back to me and i'll try to help... or if you wanna faster answer feel free to PM me for help ....

Well The problem is that I used to have a GeForce2 MX 400 then I upgraded it to a Radeon 9000. I installed the Catalyst 3.1 Drivers and uninstalled the GeForce drivers. However my computer is very unstable seeing that it constantly freezes. I have no clue whats wrong and thought that underclocking it would increase the stability. Thanks for your help. If you have any suggestions let me know.

Use powerstrip and Rage3d Tweak to underclock it just to see if it will help. Then you'll know for sure. Drop it 20MHz on the core and mem and see what happens; you can always go back.

In my experience, its always best to reinstall the OS when new hardware causes problems. This usually fixes almost all such problems. Maybe there are still some nvidia files left that conflict with your ATI drivers?

There's really nothing I can do to cause it. It will just randomly freeze sometime witihin the first 10 minutes of boot up. Sometimes my computer will just be at the desktop, then I'll click start and BAM...lockup. Maybe it is time to do a fresh install but I'd like to keep that as a last resort.
